Anxiety is a physical condition marked by intense and persistent feelings of distress, fear, angst or dread. General anxiety caused by routine day-to-day stresses usually passes quickly and is experienced by almost everyone at one time or another. However, such feelings that linger over time and are very difficult to cope with, and which lack a clear cause, may indicate...

Hello everyone. I have not been around for some time, due to my anxiety has been at bay. Sorry I am a out of sight (anxiety) out of mind poster, please forgive me.
However, to fill you in, I have suffered from a strange anxiety since my teens, now I am 56..long time right? You would think I could handle it better by now right. Also, I am in the mental health field. But, anxiety unfortunately cares less what color we are, how old we are, or how much we are educated right?
So, here is how my anxiety creeps up on me at times. Example, I worked to midnight, so I was overtired, had a slight sugar low, then ventured out to go shopping. On my way to the store I got a overwhelming sense of nervous us, like the feeling right before you might get on a scary ride. Then with that the sense that I wanted to just get back home!!!! Or else...The thing is, I don't know what the or else is...I try to fight the feeling, then I have all the fears that, I am going to go blank, not be able to drive, have to pull over...Yikes its dreadful.
I go back home, clean, pace, do anything to shake off the feeling that I am going to just go blank. I feel terribly self conscious of what I am thinking...I hate that. I feel "all mind" if that makes any sense.
Then it comes in waves, and slowly tappers off, I might get a slight headache. Sometimes it might just be a day or two of feeling not right then. But, it has lasted up two 4 weeks, coming in waves.
I have had stressful events, lack of sleep when I have not had this happen. I have gone up to a year with no episodes.
So, I did see several doctors of course, through the years, all have their input, from this to that....My therapist says it is anxiety.
I saw a psychiatrist last May, when I had a bad period, he said it sounded like a strange Akathisia (that is the feeling like you are coming out of your skin, it happens to some folks from certain medications.)
He requested blood work, and a EEG, saying it could also be some odd form of seizure...Although I have had EEG's in the past, showing nothing. And many blood tests, you name it! I have not had the test done yet, because then I went back to "normal" again.
What confuses most doctors, is that although I am a anxious person, the way I describe my so called anxiety attacks, appear to be triggered by a chemical happening with in my body, not environmental experiences.
I headed out to a baby shower today, overtired, and BANG, had to turn around, I forced myself then to go...it was really hard to do...I now still don't feel right....all thoughts, wondering when it will just go away.
Any input, support would be appreciated.
Thanks Linda

My 6mo twin DD's are EBF and just started rice cereal on the first. Everything has been going fine except this morning one of them had a diaper rash (lots of redness around her anus). I read this as one of the signs of an allergy. BUT I did just buy a different brand diaper yesterday (which they have used randomly before w/no issues). Do you think its the cereal or the diaper? Im ready to start...
My advice would be to take extra care of yourself when this is happening. Have any medication on hand, do breathing exercises, journal what's happening, etc.
Hope you feel better.
It is such an odd happening to explain to anyone, such an awareness of my thoughts...uggg, so intense that I just feel I can't escape. Then the thoughts start to race from one thing to the next. Following by the "what if's.." What if I can't drive and have to just pull over, what will I tell people, what if I go blank, what if I never rid of this feeling and can't enjoy my life, husband, reading, crafts, grandchildren, what if I can't go to work...well you get the picture right?
Sometimes, the nervousness just lasts momentarily, like when I am shopping away from home. But when I get the bad attacks, it peaks then lets up a bit, but only to come in waves, for maybe a month...at times.
Then I suddenly realize the feeling is gone! I think sometimes after nothing happens, my mind just gets used to feeling that way, then it decides to go back to "normal" who knows! I wish someone could explain it to me. My so called anxiety does not appear to have definite triggers, although it appears to start up sometimes when I am tired, out and about driving, or shopping far from home, like with my daughter and grand boys, knowing I am not near home. Sometimes on vacations, also when I am not with my husband..Hummmm, it sounds like anxiety doesn't it...?
I have had the more typical physical anxiety as well through out my life, such as dizzy, racing heart, feeling doomed, and so on. I guess generalized anxiety to say the least, with mild depression here and there. I have had stressful life events, that I am sure have contributed to my well being, but often wonder what anxiety comes from that and what is chemical imbalanced.
I have been married for 30 years, I wrote for the news and subbed int eh schools for years, while taking care of elderly parents that just passed away the past few years. I have wonderful married daughter, son in law, two grand boys 2 and 3 years old, that bring me great joy.
However I do have a very stressful job. I work in a residential home for very troubled teens. That takes a toll on me, but with that said I have had anxiety since my teens.
I have tried mild sedatives, but they don't appear to help the inner awareness of my thoughts to ease up and I end up feeling drugged and anxious, as stupid as that sounds.
Any of you ever feel this way? Do you think it is a form of anxiety.
