Anxiety Support Group
Anxiety is a physical condition marked by intense and persistent feelings of distress, fear, angst or dread. General anxiety caused by routine day-to-day stresses usually passes quickly and is experienced by almost everyone at one time or another. However, such feelings that linger over time and are very difficult to cope with, and which lack a clear cause, may indicate...

Some of the things I did was to pray and go to church, talked to some of the church members about my feelings and fears, and stop watching negative things on television (including the news). I also got on this website quite a bit, and found other uplifting websites.
I just wanted to offer my support to you. I hope you feel better soon. I am also here if you need to talk.
Panic attacks are because of a specific worry.....the fear of death, or a heart attack or a stroke. We panic because we are scared out of our mind. There is a "reason" for our worry.
With intrusive thoughts, we are scared of the thoughts. We are scared they mean we are going crazy or losing control or that we might hurt somebody we love. We are scared what the thoughts mean so we dwell on them. There is a "reason" for our worry.
Well eventually, if you work hard enough, you run out of "real" anxiety symptoms to worry about. You no longer fear your symptoms so much because you have learned how to control them and deep down you have learned they are not a real threat to you. Even though they may still bring you discomfort, you know you can control them. So you don't worry about them.
Well, now, we have a habitual worrier with nothing to worry about.
Remember that to conquer anxiety, two things have to happen. Your brain AND your personality have to learn to respond to life in a healthier, more positive manner.
Right now, through all your hard work, you have taught your brain that you are in charge. All your efforts are paying off and you are starting to fear your symptoms less and less, so your brain is shutting down the alarms a bit. I am sure you have a ways to go, but progress is being made.
But what HASN'T changed is your worry filled personality. It isn't your fault. It takes a LONG time to get over the habit of worry. And that is all it is.....a habit. When I was going through my "dread" period, I used to wake up and have about 10 seconds of feeling "normal". And then I would think "how come I am not worrying?" And then I would start to worry. It was a habit. The feelings of dread come from the fact that you have nothing to worry about. Worry is an emotion and you can feel emotions without thought. That is what babies do, that is what animals do. And this worry without thought is the dread you are feeling. You feel like something bad is going to happen but you don't know what. It is like a black cloud following you around all day. Because you haven't yet re-trained your brain. But keep doing what you are doing and speaking positively to yourself and you WILL re-train your brain and you CAN make big changes to your personality.
You will always be a worrier because that is who you are, but it will be more realistic worry. Not this uncontrolled worry that wreaks havoc in your life. As you break the habit of worry, you will notice the feelings of dread going away.
Just as a person who quit smoking will find that he will go longer and longer in the mornings before he thinks of a cigaretter, you will go longer and longer before you "remember" to worry. They are the both the exact same things. Just habits.
And lastly, the reason your anxiety has gotten worse again is because you have now come to fear the feelings of dread. The dread and your anxiety aren't the same thing. The dread is your worry and your brain makes the anxiety in response to that worry. But you can make it stop by doing just what you have been doing before. Positive thinking, not questioning things, relaxation and deep breathing. You know what to do, you just have to keep doing it.
I hope that makes sense. Dread is kind of a tricky one to write about.
