I'm another who has dealt with this symptom ALLOT, but not so much these days. Knock wood. In my strictly personal herstory, I addressed this as a symptom of, "Normalizing." Normalizing is the coping mechanism by which I attempted to be, "Fine. And how are you?" despite the levels of chaos I inherited as a birthright. My case was extreme and it took allot of therapy work to get past ^it^.
I still get the symptom during high stress periods, but processing the emotions attached to the stress while ^it^ is still fresh keeps it from escalating to the repression of "Normalizing" with all its psychoquirks. Stress happens, buttttttaaaaa. . . May it never again be my "Norm." It is a gnarly symptom.
