Anxiety Support Group
Anxiety is a physical condition marked by intense and persistent feelings of distress, fear, angst or dread. General anxiety caused by routine day-to-day stresses usually passes quickly and is experienced by almost everyone at one time or another. However, such feelings that linger over time and are very difficult to cope with, and which lack a clear cause, may indicate...

I've fought or lived with depression for over 12 years. Tried 4 different antidepressant meds; all SSRI's. The last, Celexa, did well... for a while. Then it got worse and I just quit; basically for a few days. Then I started up again and started down hill again. Quit again and began hydroxytryptophan as a nutritional supplement; it's a serotonin precursor.
Has really helped the depression, and the doc says OK. And I can sleep now too! Won't bother to tell you about the biochemistry. But it has REALLY helped.
But anxiety is still a problem. Some days, I can barely function or accomplish the things that need to be done. Can't do a damn thing on the worst days.
Any ideas on anxiolytics that might help? Not familiar with any of them. And some sound downright scary! The more technical the better as I am a PhD "Biochemist". We can be such a pain!
I can barely look for a job these days; and I need one bad.

What is anxiolytics
As far as anxiety goes, I was on a fairly low dose of Clonazepam which I took 3X/day. I was also prescribed Xanax to take if I slipped into a bad anxiety or panic attack. As for side-effects, other than feeling tired after taking a Xanax, I didn't notice any unpleasant effects from the medications. Honestly, even with the meds, about 80% of dealing with my own anxiety came from coaching myself. You may already be doing this, or maybe you've tried it in the past, but counselling really did help me through the worst of it. If I still had health insurance, I would still be taking the medications I mentioned above. I'm not very concerned about how scary they sound, because my desire to rid myself of anxiety is far greater than my fear of the side-effects of the medications.
I can't give you the technical facts about these meds, but I can tell you they worked for me. I hope you find something soon. :)
