When I was in college, I spoke with a number of sororities and concluded very quickly they were not for me. Doesn't mean they're bad. They just didn't suit who I was.
I'm more of a theater/activist/androgeny kind of gal and found the sororities where I was to be more pep squad/party girl/girlygirls.
They're not all like that. But if you join, rather than join for the name of the sorority, find one where you feel welcome and comfortable and connect with the people.
But whether you join or not, you will find your tribe and make lifelong friends.
There is no "right or wrong" here - just finding what fits.
I did not join one in college, but have a few friends who did. They do take a lot of time and commitment. You will have to be very good with your time management. Regardless of whether you go this route or not, you can always make friends.
Try to think positive about the bid days. See if you connect with any of the other girls in the interest meetings. I know they had those when I was there, and I knew which ones that I didn't click with pretty quick. Good luck sweetie.
Like you, I also had not made many friends my first year at college. I was very shy. After the sorority experience I gradually started to get to know more people. By my third year of college I had a couple set groups that I was haning out with.
Good luck to you and I wish you the best in finding your way. If the sorority thing works out, I am happy for you. If not, don't beat yourself up. How else would you know unless you tried it? All of what you are feeling is normal.
