Anxiety Support Group
Anxiety is a physical condition marked by intense and persistent feelings of distress, fear, angst or dread. General anxiety caused by routine day-to-day stresses usually passes quickly and is experienced by almost everyone at one time or another. However, such feelings that linger over time and are very difficult to cope with, and which lack a clear cause, may indicate...
I just turned 40 in january. My anxiety and issues have been getting worse. I live in an area where we have bad snow storms over the winter. It is so bad that I don't want to leave the house when the snow hits. i am terrified to get into a car on the icy roads. I am scared we are going to get into an accident. Riding with my husband is a challenge. We are also arguing in the car. i say he drives to close and too fast. I have trouble watching tv or dealing with tne news. Every time I hear the word Death I freak out. I get all tingly and feel like getting sick. I know it is a fact of life. The older I get the worse it gets. All of my life I have had social anxiety. It stems from childhood. I was teased and picked on. I was picked on for being different and for being myself. I want to be ok. I am on medications for depression, anxiety, and for thyroid. I have trouble remembering to talk them. They seem to help for a bit. Maybe I need some hobbies to take my mind off of things. I am also very hard on myself. Most days I would rather hide at home then be out in public. I would rather live in my own world with rainbows and sunshine. Am I crazy.

Years ago, I won a mirrored armoire from my job. It's in my bedroom but I rarely stand in front of it. Yesterday, I had to have a dexascan done so I had to change into a gown. There was a full length mirror in the changing room. I'm aware that I gained 5 to 7 pounds over the last year from cheating on Keto but I didn't know what it looked like. It was a reality check.

"don't be a hate hole" has been one of my recent mantras which seems to be escaping my mouth more and more often. it emerges when i am faced with the endless list of chores i would rather not deal with. insurance. head lice. bureaucracy. in-laws. the list goes on and on and on and on, ad infinitum.reality checks requested. am i making sense?"ever'thin they is but loving leaves a rust on your...

What I feel you are saying to me, is that you don't have any control, is that about right? You can't control the weather or the news or anything that happens outside your doors; BUT, what you can control is yourself.
First let me ask this...is your husband aware of your issues? All of them? Is he part of your support group?
Here is what you can do; when it snows--you drive. You said you want your world to be rainbows and sunshine? Color your own picture of a rainbow and put it under the visor in your car so when you feel anxious, look up and smile.
Don't watch the news anymore, I don't. Watch full length movies. You want a hobby, get a coloring book and keep coloring. Put the pictures on the walls until you get better.
You take care. J
Change your response to fit your well-being. Once the other person's usual response no longer fits, it changes. Not always for better, but then you make another change and it changes.
You are your best support system in working with finding positive ways to handle the situation.
In a car, focus on the positive. You wear your seat belt, you have everything in place, get a stress ball to use if you can not read in a moving vehicle. In other words, stop talking with him while he's driving and instead focus on positive for your self.
Set up a snow plan (this means planning ahead for things you need before a snowstorm and keeping it current to make it easier to snuggle inside for storms.
You can do this!
I agree with all the above responses, yet I'm sure it's hard to start making changes. So start with the small ones! I love Novembergirl's suggestion to start with breathing. You can do that right here, right now! Then maybe move onto another change you can make, like getting a small hobby like knitting, crocheting, adult coloring book, etc. Have you tried journaling your feelings? Or just taking time to sit and listen to your favorite music? Maybe those things would help you find moments of hope and relaxation in your day. I bet if you work through these things slowly, the small changes you make everyday will add up! Praying for you to find strength to take this one day at a time! Sending hugs!
