Anxiety Support Group
Anxiety is a physical condition marked by intense and persistent feelings of distress, fear, angst or dread. General anxiety caused by routine day-to-day stresses usually passes quickly and is experienced by almost everyone at one time or another. However, such feelings that linger over time and are very difficult to cope with, and which lack a clear cause, may indicate...

If not anger, I hold a lot in. I am married 11 yrs to a wonderful women, except for 6-month break up yrs ago we are together 18yrs, problem is, during our break up she played the field more than I and I have not forgiven her...13/14 yrs ago.
I don't let go and I am sure that is what a therapist would say to me.
Did your therapist work with possibilities to help get the anger out? Sounds like you need to figure that out next.
What can you do to exhale the anger, per se'? Gym, yoga, write, call a friend, run, drive for a while, see a movie, jump up and down, punch a punching bag?
it's all about experimentation in what works for you. many times our anger is from past traumas or incidents in which we still are stuck emotionally in the past. I hope this is something you explore with your therapist as well.
best of luck, i hope i gave you some ideas/advice.
Sincerely,
Brian

That is what you have to do to let go of your feelings safely. I at first thought I had a lot of anger issues, however, I had even more denial issues.
Best wishes!
Expressing yourself and venting your anger would probably help you feel more powerful and that is a great thing, but I don't think that in itself would be enough to notice any significant improvement in how you are feeling. But I don't know you or what your history is so I could be completely wrong......
Pent up anger is different. It usually isn't even anger at all. It is more of a frustration.....a resentment. It is there because we feel powerless over whatever the situation is. We don't feel like we are strong enough to express ourselves, or as I said before, that we deserve to express ourselves. And the fact that we feel weak and powerless is what contributes to the anxiety. Not the pent up anger itself. So if I were you, I would work on why I feel weak.....not why I feel frustrated and angry.
But again, I am not a therapist and I don't know your situation so I could be way off base. My thoughts are just a result of years of my own self analysis..lol. I have lots and lots of practice at that. :)
