Anxiety Support Group
Anxiety is a physical condition marked by intense and persistent feelings of distress, fear, angst or dread. General anxiety caused by routine day-to-day stresses usually passes quickly and is experienced by almost everyone at one time or another. However, such feelings that linger over time and are very difficult to cope with, and which lack a clear cause, may indicate...
I sincerely hope you are well.
I am the writer of the little article about anxiety that has caused so much fuss on this thread.
Goldtopsam, I have done much thinking about your learned comments and can find no issue with them. I hope you understand that it was never my intention to cause a fuss, I was merely trying to help others by telling a story.
On a positive note I am glad that you thought the article was admirable but agree in hindsight that the claim was indeed questionable due to my lack of empirical peer reviewed results. In my original understanding, I was simply doing what I see thousands of others doing on this worldwide web every day, but with the major difference of not asking for any money.
I suppose I was guilty of being 'more charming' in my writing style and altruistic intent which got the guide noticed.
I had hoped that I had added enough detail regarding the fact that I not qualified. My only qualification was the fact that I removed by own anxiety disorder and wished to share a positive viewpoint and my method of removal.
It worked for me and very fast. My last intention was to be seen to practice 'psychology without a licence'.
In my understanding I had made it clear that this was a personal method and not a one-size-fits all via caveat disclaimer and the details regarding there being no compulsions. In hindsight this should have been expanded upon greatly, again here I believe you to be correct.
Please be reassured that my guide is no longer live on the internet nor ever shall be and now only resides within my mind and your pdf printout.
Due to your valid concerns from a greater intellectual standpoint regarding the psychological community, and the inclusion of the statement regarding "Copyright Held Do Not Reproduce Without Permission" I would ask that you use your bin wisely and deposit the guide therein. I hope that I can rely on your integrity to adhere to such a request.
The guide itself was merely a reflection of the thought processes I had as I cured myself. I have removed the site permanently because I truly believe that your concerns are valid, well reasoned and well expressed (ok a bit wordy for us 'layman' but we each write in our own styles).
Thank you so much for bringing to the attention of others the flaws in the dissemination method of my approach. You may be able to tell from my writing style that I am the last person who would want to cause harm.
Originally I was upset at the critique even to the point of spelling 'hypocrisy' wrong in a clumsy retaliation to your honest comments. But hey ho, I am only human. For that I am truly sorry.
Apologies for any strife I have caused. This site is a wonderful community with wonderful people.
Despite my original publication being free, I still believed that people are entitled to an explanation. So I sincerely hope that I have expressed myself to all your satisfactions.
All my regards, from the bottom of my heart.
Chris
You really are unbelievable goldtop.. Next time .. Keep your comments to yourself
My mistake was to post opinion as fact (albeit with caveat disclaimer). I am a simple fellow who has finally learned that the wisdom of Mark Twain in his words If you tell the truth you don't have to remember anything sometimes falls at the hurdle of opinion.
Having said that I know of no other who disclaims every opinion they have.
I truly and honestly believe that his concerns are valid. I truly and honestly believe his intentions are to be helpful, and I truly and honestly believe that he succeeds in his intentions. He has an amazing knowledge, and he is more than happy to share that amazing knowledge, in short and in my opinion he is most definitely one of the good guys to a very large degree.
Use the example of the guide. He has helped me enormously in pointing out from a highly intelligent perspective (of that I have no doubt) the problems the guide has, and it does indeed have problems.
Yes I do believe honestly believe from the bottom of my heart that he is correct in his analysis. I do also believe that the little guide has many good points (ok Ill be the first to admit Im biased!), but we need to be sensible, relaxed and objective. My claims were too grandiose, my explanations of my understandings too basic. It is a shame because I wrote with simplistic honesty that could only originate from the heart and not from the head.
So, I will be honest once more (for I know of no other way to be), I dont know what to do now. On the one hand I had many wonderful people telling me that what I had written was inspirational, on the other hand I have been gifted the knowledge by an equally wonderful person (with the best intentions) that I have no place to advise regardless of charm or endearment and the potential problems that could ensue.
My first priority is to give time to my kin, and not leave myself open to 'issue'.
My wife was listening to Martyn Joseph (Penarth Folk Singer) last night playing the simple song the good in me is dead, I wondered for a few seconds in all my melodramatic self indulgence whether this song now applied to me.
I was indeed at a loss, but alas I am no longer downbeat, for in the words of my mother (and in my opinion truly the wisest in the history of mankind) life is wonderful.
So thank (everyone) you for your kind feedback, I truly am flattered, and I am truly sorry for any inconvenience that I have caused.
Every good regard,
Chris.
I felt the guide was a great read. It did actually make sense to me and was helpful, as well as, entertaining. Thanks for the attempt to help.
I like you and I like your good intentions and sound knowledge.
I can happily report that I haven't had a panic attack in two weeks, and my anxiety is so minimal, I hardly think about it.
This article was the first thing I found that actually helped me. Prior to it, I was truly suffering.
The only reason I came back to this board tonight, is that my therapist asked to read the article.
I'm sure you've all heard the saying that if you can do something that helps just one person, then it is worth it. Well, to the author of the article, you helped me stop my cycle of fight or flight panic. I hope you'll consider posting the article once again.
Thank you, Heidi
