Klonopin is a drug in the same drug class as Xanax. They are benzodiazepines. The biggest difference is that Klonopin takes a little longer to start working but lasts up to 12 hours. Xanax lasts about 4 hours. Ive been on Klonopin for over 5 years with no problem. Some people who take Benzos have to increase the dose over time to get the same calming effect but i havent had that problem. Your doc may have decided to switch you to a longer acting drug instead of increasing your dose.

I take klonopin occasionally. It's great, I still feel like me except calmer, as opposed to when I took ativan once and felt completely drugged and more anxious and then started sobbing hysterically as it wore off. :-) Let us know how you feel! :-)

I took Klonopin for a short time, not long enough to worry about withdrawal symptoms. My son took it for years and said it was harder to withdrawal from then his pain meds. For some people it works really good but just be careful okay? I didn't have much luck with the Xanax either. The difference is that Xanax works almost immediately while Klonopin takes about 30 minutes to kick in. I take Ativan, 1 mg, and I was at my doctors office one day having an attack. He told me to put the pill under my tongue and it would work in half the time. Just an FYI> Hugs

I have a friend who has been on both and says the Klonopin is a life saver. She said she's able to think straight but feels very calm and relaxed. Hope it works well for you.

I thought I would say I am on four meds ..for depreshion and angizity ....so there is room to ....move when it comes to antiedepresants .......
