Anger Management Support Group
Anger management commonly refers to therapeutic techniques by which someone with excessive or uncontrollable anger can control or reduce their emotions. Typical examples include the use of deep breathing and meditation as a means to relaxation. Psychologists recommend a balanced approach, which both controls the emotion and allows it to express itself in a healthy way.
I have a 10yr old, 7yr old and 3yr old (and one on the way) so I know how easy it is to get upset with kids. All three of mine act up and it can be very difficult for me not to lose my temper. Especially with my son whose 7 and has behavior issues. What helps me is to be honest with my feelings, by telling my kids when I am getting upset by what they do. I will tell them "I'm really upset that you did that I need you to go to your room" or something like that. It's a little different with a 3yr old but its okay to tell him and if you can have him in a safe place then maybe you can go to your room or the bathroom yourself just for a minute to catch your breath. Be honest with yourself too. Just say I am really upset and I really want to spank my son but I don't want to spank him just because I'm mad at him so I am going to choose to do something else.
Remember, kids are frustrating and annoying and can make you feel like you are going to lose your mind. Just remember, it will pass, and try to focus on the good things about them. And yes, there are some things you can look back on and laugh. I remember things that my son did when he was that age (like put butter on the walls with a steak knife) that were just mind-boggling and I remember praying Lord save me from this kid and save this kid from me! Anyway that's kids. They are not little adults and they don't know appropriate behavior, it's our job to teach them. Just try to have a few laughs in the meantime and hang on, because they won't be little forever...
