I have autoimmune hemolytic anemia, caused my systemic lupus erythematosus, or just plain lupus. I don't know too much about it, but I. like you, am on prednisone and I am also on other immune suppressants to deal with all my autoimmune conditions. I was treated for Lupus for 15 yrs . In 2001 the DX was changed to APS and hemolytic anemia, Fibro,among other things.

I have had three strokes from the APS and recovered very well. The bad one was before I was put on Coumadin. The last one because I didn't take my blood thinner for a week.

:-) I'm doing well enough. So they don't think you have lupus now? Good for you! I just got over an infection, which is triggering a lupus flare, so I'm pretty miserable right now, My mom has fibromyalgia, and she says it's just awful, the pain she's in all the time. I have no idea how the pain compares to lupus, but I do know it's primary symptom is pain, so I hope you are alright. You know lupus can cause APS, hemolytic anemia, and fibro, right? I have APS and hemolytic anemia as a part of my lupus. Have they checked your ANA lately?

Princess, I went through UCLA and USC after my 2mo. in the hospital,and they gave me a 80% chance of dying in 5yrs. I had hep C too but that hadn't been discovered yet.
They treated me for Lupus after my first stroke but when Dr. Hughes discovered you could have APS apart from Lupus the DX was changed.
I have never had a positive ANA.
My fatigue is bad at times but I don't have severe pain.

I have to admit my ignorance, I didn't know Lupus can cause hemolytic anemia, although it make sense I guess. It's funny, in over 20 years of Nursing I never had a patient with hemolytic anemia outside sickle cell kids. TThen my grandson (giazera) was diagnosed with it related to hereditary spherocytosis and needed a transfusion. Is the prednisone what controls it for you?

My hemolytic anemia just does it's own thing. After being on Prednisone for 10 days my hemoglobin went from 9.0 to 11.4 but my INR went from 2.6 to 3.8. I am more concerned about my APS than the hemolytic anemia. My hematologist is nice but I don't think she is on top of this!

Autoimmune? Whats that? Never mind I can find out myself. Lets see, WordWeb... What? Abnormal body functioning where the immune system makes antibodies against its own tissues? Oh my god, that has really gotta hurt! Hope you feel fine. I'm gonna update on my story now, say how I am now thought to have had the disease from birth, and nobody before me as far as we know had this disease, that it suddenly popped up.
