shrinking limb

I have just started to be sized up for a new sock as the old one no longer fits.Today half way through the day I started to bottom out.I had been useing a green sock doubled over making for 6 plys.I added a yellow to stop with the bottoming out.The new socket that we are making uses a real sticky white sock with no compression rings.Instead of having only 4 inches of support I am now going to have 1 1/2 feet of support.I was wondering if anybody else had tryed this set up?I lost my right leg above the knee 1 year and 5 months ago of late my stump has shrunk alot is this normal????

yes it is I my stump shrunk alot in the last 2 years, by double the size from what it was. When I went to the Vac systems I lost even more size I can realy see the bones now where in the begining I couldn't. I hope this helps

Hi: good Morning?I agree with Dennis these is alot of shrinkage, but iam in Canada and i think we do things a little diff after amputation we spend 6-8 weeks. in physio and ot.
by the way my amputation was Jult 07( man almost 2 years already and iam a bk.we get a temp socket and when they get it to fit they make a perm. one with it. and iam on my third temp socket now and wearing a 5 ply and a 3ply sock. and i go back on the 9th to get it ajusted. so it does shrink a lot for at least 2 years,but iam 70 years old whitch mite make a diff... my Daughter got out of the hospital on Friday after an ak.. have a lot of prob. with knee.. hope this helps some::: Old Joe

I don't know if this is on subject or not,but here goes anyway...
I'm a RLBK for about 1 1/2 years now.. HANGER in STOCKTON,Ca made me a pin system with a 13 1/2 Gel Liner including the pin which seemed to work fine.. About 14 months later I moved to the Sacramento area and HANGER in Sacramento made me a new leg and gave me two 18 1/2 inch gel liners,but when I where the new leg, the liner gets all bunched up and slows blood circulation to the stump, so I cut one the liners to 13 1/2 inches and it works much better for me,even though the Doc says I'm wrong...I still have alot of pain almost all of the time if the leg is on or off or regardless of what size liner.. I have MEDICARE and VA and have been trying since November to get into a PT class and get some input from a pain specialist..I finally got a PT appointment at UC DAVIS this Thurs, June 11 I hope... Vern65 do you have edma?as for making adjustments after tell hanger what I needed 10 times and he would not do it I also made fixes a hair dryier will make the socket easy to bend and if it does not work you can always bend it back like they had it.as for pain well they always tell me if it hurts then it not fitting right.I am excited about this new sock we are building.we will be doing away with the suction rings.what I am wondering about is how will I get the dam thing off.After using a sleeve to put it in the socket and having a real tight fit it looks like it is going to take 3 guys and a chain saw to get it off.as for the pain meds I am taking occycodeen 10/325 broken in half about 3 times a day I am really tired of taking them and can not wait for the day when I don't need them any more.

What is EDMA? Good luck on the new set-up, I hope everything works out okay for you... As far as I can make out any blame or reason for my pain, I can't.. It hurts with or without the leg on or off... The 15MG of OXYCODONE I take 3 or 4 times a day helps a little.. I feel the same as you do.. I will be a happy trucker when I can stop all the drugs....
