I was talking with my wife couple years ago about openning a store for amputee here in my town. The reason for doing this because there is no good place beside the internet to buy supplies like skin lotion or skin care items, suspension items just everyday items that is hard to find at Wal-mart or Wal-greens or any pharmacy. I am just wondering what everybody thinks of this ideal if there was a store like this in your town would you come and check it out. Or would this be a bad buisness to get into just looking for some input from other amputee's. I know if there was a place like this in town I would check it out.

Good idea Dennis, but is there enough amputees in your area to keep the business going? I know for myself, I just order my ALPS through my prosthetist and he ships it directly to my house (he's 9 hrs away). And I make my own pull sleeves. But I guess to answer your question, if I had a store right in my town, or surrounding town, and their supplies were competitively priced, then yes I would use them!

I think a store would be great, but also consider a shoe exchange in this store. So many of us end up buying two shoes and when not wearing prosthesis due to complications, we waste one shoe or slipper etc. It would be nice to be able to send the extra shoe to a place where another amputee can benefit from it. To give to Goodwill or somewhere, it usually gets tossed because if you have two feet, who wants one shoe?

Now I just have to figure out how and where to get my supplies any Ideals would help I look around on the net but I would hate to pay there prices. I would like to try to keep it competitivey price for I would get more busness in the store. Any ideal on how I can get hold on supples that be more direct from the manufacturer

Bigbear I really like the shoe exchange Ideal, that would fit in nicely into the store ideal

Hey Dennis!

I think you will have to buy your supplies wholsale from the manufacturer sothat you will be able to sustain a store. Probably the best place to start is with products that you know and believe in. It alkways helps when you go to buy an item that you really do know someone who uses it and be able to supply that info. Testimonials are great, but if you were able to hve people that use the item be available online to answer questions, then most would probably feel that they were geting the truth and not just a canned writing. I have read about a few items on here that I am possibly interested in trying when I can wear my prothesis again.

I am with them Dennis, I would go, especially if you make it a one stop shop. Novelty items for amputees as well. Love the show exchange idea. Sounds like a good plan :-)

I would do anything for a shoe exchange! Im a Milwaukee girl and I would drive to Wausau for a shoe exchange. Its so frustrating to waste one shoe.

Would the shoe exchange be set-up on the net, because I do like this ideal alot and my niece went to school for web design so I could get her to help design a web site for this Ideal.
