Amputees Support Group
Amputation is the removal of a body extremity by trauma or surgery. Many have undergone amputation or have been living with a missing limb since birth. In either case, life as an amputee can be challenging. This is the place to find others going through the same experiences as an amputee. Share your thoughts, troubles, and solutions with the community.

Went to the doctors today
For something that I found in my sump last week while I massage it and trying to figure out why I was having problem with walking especially at the end of the day, mostly nerve discomfort from a tendon that runs from back of my knee along my fibula and then ends it does move around a little mostly side to side. The doctor told me that I need it for the flip over skin and muscle so it cant be remove as I was told. He did say that he could tied it to the bone it would be a day surgery, with a 4 to 6 weeks recover time. Then it wont move around and bother the nerves. He was not sure if that would make it better, or make it get worst, or do nothing, or it could get infected and there and goes knee because me being so short this is all we talk about during the appointment.
I have been going to my leg guy trying to get a good socket fit for the past six months now. I would have my most troubles with the head of the tibia but we are getting that work out. But as the day went on I notice more discomfort with the head of the fibula even after couples days after we made adjustment to the sockets, the day of the adjustment would be good almost good enough to run couple step anyways by the end of the day, but it still would be hard to do, like a rock in your shoe all day. I do find that on weekend when I am on the leg the most that it does get harder to walk and I have to take breaks to finish what ever I am doing, do to the discomfort from the tendon moving around. I am not really sure if it is what is causing it or if there a nerve ball there that the socket pushes against or it just me but I truely think that is what is causing it. But I would like to find out but I am really scare about having it done. I do have an appt with my leg doc on Thursday and I do plan on talking with him on this and see what he thinks.
I would like some input from anybody and please tell me what you would do if it were you. I know its up to me but I am scare about the hole thing just not sure on what to do I would love it if did help and made my day more livable because no more discomfort and I could walk farther and take less breaks get the job done faster, BUT WHAT IF? That what I am looking at would like some help.
I am a BKA left
Thank you,
Dennis

My 6mo twin DD's are EBF and just started rice cereal on the first. Everything has been going fine except this morning one of them had a diaper rash (lots of redness around her anus). I read this as one of the signs of an allergy. BUT I did just buy a different brand diaper yesterday (which they have used randomly before w/no issues). Do you think its the cereal or the diaper? Im ready to start...
Remember to get a little notebook, and write down all of the questions that you have as you think of them. Leave enough space for you to write out the answers as you talk to the doctors or prostheticists. Make notes of what you are doing as the pain develops during the day-- time of day, how long you've had on the leg, how many socks you have on, what you've been walking on ground wise, etc.
Just some thoughts.
