Amputation is the removal of a body extremity by trauma or surgery. Many have undergone amputation or have been living with a missing limb since birth. In either case, life as an amputee can be challenging. This is the place to find others going through the same experiences as an amputee. Share your thoughts, troubles, and solutions with the community.

Hi all,
I am recently new to the site. I have been a RAKA since August 2, 2010. I have had to deal with oncology treatment for recurring breast cancer. I lost my leg as an indirect result of a chemotherapy treatment. It looks like I will possibly finally get to rehab in September. ANyone with past experience that can tell me what to expect?
Thanks

Will the inpatient rehab be for gait training with the prosthesis? I think the experience is different for all people, but one of the first things I learned was how to fall correctly (this was several months before I got my prosthesis) since that's bound to happen. In general there will be mostly PT, but some OT as well - it all depends on your level of ability and it appears you have some medical issues complicating things a bit. I only was evaluated by OT since I was pretty independent going into inpatient rehab because the hospital I was at for 3 months after my accident really worked with me and rehabbed (is that a word) better than the actual rehab hospital. A lot will depend on how well you handle frustration. Seems like you've already experienced enough of it. Best of luck.

I went to the doctor a while ago to see about my allergies. He rubbed my arm and stuck things under the skin. Nothing. He poked and prodded, his phlebotomist drew so much blood people thought that we were dating. The tests all came back negative. Then one day I went back and I told him that I had found the cause of my allergy. It turns out, I am allergic to betrayal.
