Amputees Support Group
Amputation is the removal of a body extremity by trauma or surgery. Many have undergone amputation or have been living with a missing limb since birth. In either case, life as an amputee can be challenging. This is the place to find others going through the same experiences as an amputee. Share your thoughts, troubles, and solutions with the community.
Sorry to hear about your AKA. If your not in a lot of pain after only two months, you are WAY ahead of the curve my friend. Its very normal for your muscles to be sore. We have had our muscles moved to a new home after trauma, so it will take a little bit for your leg to settle in. Be patient-and most important stay active. Massage, rub, and get to "Desensitizing" your leg. I found the more I rubbed and massaged the sensitive spots the better it got over time.
We are learning to walk on a part of our body thats not designed to walk on, but there is great technology that will keep you active for years.
Stumps take a long time to heal and shrink but it doesnt mean you cannot be active while this process is going on. Throw "Normal" out the window. Normal is BORING.
During my healing process, and it is a process, I learned to listen to my body while pushing myself.
This is a great community for questions and answers. Welcome!!
