cremation

If you are thinking or about to go through a ampution asked your doctor what they do with the leg. Then ask if you can have it cremated to keep the ashes I did just that so now I still have my leg but its in a jar and ashes. Just a thought for all of you with a choice. So When the day comes they can add the ashes to rest of my body ashes I can be hole again. Check out my pics it there you can see the jar not a hole lot of ashes but its still my foot.

That's different.Who would have thunk about that.Personally when I had my leg it was hurting so bad I really did not care what they did with it after they took it off.

I was asked what I wanted to do with it. I told them to keep it and use it for teaching or some other useful thing, fore I had no need for it anymore.

I had that recomended to me by a friend who is a thearipist. She said it helps with the grieving period. I don't see her as a thearipist,or take her advice! She was my friends wife.He got tired of her advice too!
Like papertrucker said,it was hurting so bad for so long, I did not give a second thought as to what where or how it ended up.

Interesting!! I lost my leg after batteling cancer for 6 years..so before the amputation I had had my tibia and knee bones replaced with titanium. When the cancer returned and the only option was amputation I asked for the titanium that was once my leg. My doc couldn't give me ALL the titanium because it had to be sent away to pathology, but I was able to keep the total knee replacement. That darn thing is sooooo heavy I cant imagine how much my whole leg weighed with all that titanium hahah...But it is cool now to show everyone my "knee".

I know about the pain that was one of the reason why I had it cut off in hope of the pain would go away. But I only had a few day to decicde if I wanted to try to save it or cut it off. I would of lost my big toe and the one next to it and only had one vien left in my foot, because they could't save the other two. plus every bone in my foot was broken, and my heal was hamburger so the doc said it would be better to cut it off and get on with life faster. She wasn't sure on how many more surgies I would need if I tried to save it.
But its still was my foot so I wanted it back, I do like the ideal about using it as a teaching tool if a student could learn something from it and became a better doctor because of it them that would of been worth it too.
So now I have a bottle full of ashes that was once my foot to show people most thinks it cool. just my personnal choice
