Amputees Support Group
Amputation is the removal of a body extremity by trauma or surgery. Many have undergone amputation or have been living with a missing limb since birth. In either case, life as an amputee can be challenging. This is the place to find others going through the same experiences as an amputee. Share your thoughts, troubles, and solutions with the community.
The Harmony socket system setup is most like the one I use, except it doesn't have an active vac system that makes adjustments throughout the day. Mine has a vacuum chamber fabricated inside the socket, but otherwise they are very similar. The OWW system is different in that it is a single-wall system with liner and sleeve reflected over the top of the socket.
As for the ACA conference, I think it is a fabulous experience for first-timers. Two of our patients, one older and one in her 20's who came with us for the first time got a lot out of it... the advanced gait training and running clinic being the biggest hit. But they also enjoyed the dance classes and various educational sessions and roundtable discussions. Just being around so many other amputees is an amazingly "freeing" thing, and I saw people trying things in a "safe" environment they might not feel comfortable trying on their own. As far as technology goes, the biggest breakthroughs for AK's, in my opinion, are the vacuum systems and new feet that are being introduced. Not sure when/where the next conference will be, but if you've never been to one I'm sure you'd get a lot out of the experience. Some people go back year after year because of the great friendships they have formed and to see if there's anything new.
different ? Is it expensive? He has Medicare and private insurance.
I hav fit people with the limblogic vs. It is a great system for BK amoutees.
I have tried it on AKAs and only problem we've had is leaks on the socket trim when you sit. The LLVS socket is a brimless socket, so it is pretty cosmetic,
