seems it is so hard to get my gait done,,,,one minute like music and next bam,,,guess just more practice!

JUST KEEP SAYING I KNOW I CAN I KNOW I CAN/ I AM A RL BKA AND ITS BEEN A YEAR AND I WALK GOOD WITH THE WALKER, BUT THE CANE STINKS I AM A BIG PERSON AND AM AFRAID OF FALLING GOT TO GO BUT LOTS OF LOVE AND GOOD LUCK YOU WILL DO IT...LINDA

walking some without crutches,but just trying to get my gait down better!
been a year and a half but had knee surgey and knee is not quite right!

I had my RAK done in 3/07, had some complications and finally got my prosthesis in august. I am able to walk without anything, but use 1 crutch when shopping or walking alot. I have been discouraged lately, due to constant adjustments w/ prosthesis. It helps knowing we all have our hurdles to cross and we cross them at different time frames. I have a 4 yr old VERY active boy, so I don't have time to not walk! He definatly keeps me going.

It takes time to gain confidence, and to strengthen the new muscles you will be using. Also, once you have been walking a while, you will know when your prosthesis is adjusted just right for your gait, length and speed. Also, believe it or not, the weight of your shoe has quite an impact on your knee mechanism. Usually lighter shoes tend to make the action "stiffer", and heavy boots seem to slow things down. Another fun thing is if you spend a long time outside in the winter. The hydraulics get cold, and do not want to move at all. I used to go ice fishing with my family after I lost my leg and would stay out in sub zero weather for hours. I was dressed warmly, but without the circulation, my prosthetic leg would get ice cold. The lower part especially. I would come in and my leg would refuse to bend. Even with heavy boots on. Keep walking...
