I don't know if my meds will do YOU any good or not, but my doc prescribed Neurontin 100mg 3 times a day. The generic is Gabapentin. I used to be plagued with phantom pains and weird feelings of my amputated leg hanging down through the mattress, and stuff like that. I just have to take the Gabapentin twice a day now, and every bit of the phantom pain and feelings are gone. Hope this helps.

You should try Lidoderm Lidocaine Patch 5% its a local anesthetic with no side effect like pills. You can cut them the size that you need them to be. Its a patch that you can put on your score spot or the area with the most phantom pain. You can wear them up to 12 hours on then 12 hours off. I use them at night they help calm down the phantom pain, because they go right to the spot that bother me the most.
They help by claming the nerves down at the spot not by working in the brain and some pills take days to start working and they come with side effect. I did tryGabapentin alll that did was give me a head ache and no help with the phantom so I stop taking them. I do like the patch better because they go right to the spot.

The doctors have my husband on Neurontin right now. I am not sure if it is because his amputation is so new (July 23rd is when it happened) but it doesn't seem to help his phantom pain a lot. He complains of his fingers being on fire. Espeacially during and after a therepy session so I am also interested in finding out if there is something else that can help him as well. Thanks

I am on Gabapentine.
I had a lot of problems at first and was on a high doseage.
I have reduced quite a bit and I am down to 300mg three times a day now. I still get phantom pain ( BK 11/7/09 )
A friend of mine had an above knee 47 years ago and still has phantom pains.
