I am glad you KNOW in your heart you will be ok....

as for the up and down, at just a little over 4 weeks I am exactly there still....

You are doing what comes naturally Deborah...I can still cry at the drop of a hat...hearing a song or reading a poem or just thinking of the suffering.

I know you will be OK too....we all will with enough time.

Stay close and keep posting, its the next best thing to being there!

I, too, know the heartache you are all referring to. It is hard to explain all of the emotions. Much of the time, I just feel numb and shocked. I still don't quite know what happened. Alzheimer's is like a very bad dream and I don't know if you ever awake from it.

I'm interested to know if I'll feel any of these emotions when my mother passes. I know my days will be empty for a long time since my whole life is centered around her well being. I don't know if I'll actually mourn her death though. I don't like her much to this very day so I just may be dealing with empty space which I'm not good at all. We'll see.

What you say here strikes a chord...'numb and shocked, ,,,,don't quite know what happened,,,, Alzheimer's is like a bad nightmare...that one wonders if you ever really wake up from.'.........so well put.......

I think it must be somewhat different to lose a parent to Alzheimer's than to lose a spouse. When my Dad passed away after a very difficult last year with the disease, I felt as if a thousand pounds had been lifted from my shoulders and he was my hero. But I had my husband to come home to. My poor Mom must have felt like you beautiful, brave ladies. Alone after many, many years of a happy marriage. I do admire you all so much for the care you gave to your husbands and for lifting up your sisters even during your own pain. My prayers are with you that you will be okay someday soon and will find happiness again. Hugs, xoxo

Pam- I did not feel as sad when my dad died, I think it depends on the relationship we had with them.
