My dad has vascular dementia so they did EEGs many years ago when he had his first stoke. At that time they said he had just minor damage that would "reroute" on it's own. Last Fall they did an MRI of his brain and the result is awful. Years of TIAs have devasted his frontal lobe from what I understand.

What he finally realized is that the treatment is to try to prevent or slow down more damage..there is no fixing what has happened. Sometimes not knowing is better.

I wish they would find a cure. I bet that the cure is very simple. We just have to find it!

I have been reading that they do have a better understanding of what happens but curing it is complicated because it is a 4 part process and each process can be helped with a drug BUT then there are drug interactions to deal with etc so that is what makes the cure difficult.

Interesting, Deborah. I have seen this before and it so frustrating to me. There are many studies out there right now. One is to graft in new brain cells. I have thought about having it done to Ken, but maybe not.

If I knew that Rollie could grow new brain cells I would go for it but if it would stop the progress and he would stay where he is now I would not do it and I hope that no one would do that to me if I were in his condition.

I am absolutely with Deborah on this one. If the brain cells could correct the present damage I would consider it. If not, there is no chance I would prolong the agony of dementia for him or me. If anyone did it for me..........I would haunt them the rest of their lives. There is no real quality of life with dementia. The pain it causes is not worth the occasional smile that might come in a moment of clarity.
