Deb aren't those hours alone precious? I know that when Tom was doing so poorly and I was getting a few respite hours, I seldom wanted to be with anyone but myself. I occasionally would meet a friend for lunch but I really just loved going to the library or walking in Kohls and Walmart. When you are with someone 24/7 ..... even when that someone really isn't there..... alone time is precious. Hope you got a good nights sleep!

My mom is talking about moving out of the bedroom again. I think it's a great idea.

That is a good idea deborah, as it is very hard to get any restful sleep in the same bed with them. Swinging arms and making noises and up and down to the bathroom all night.

You need your rest so as to be a good caregiver to Rollie.

I moved to the guest room about 6 months ago. I am right under him so I can hear him when he moves. I really sleep so much better alone. It just got so terrible awkward for me. He was and is such a stranger to me and I was very uncomfortable with the idea of him getting aroused. It is just one more step in the separation process.

Mom started to tell me the other day that my dad is complaining that she doesn't want anything to do with him anymore. I'm assuming that is her way of saying that she doesn't want to have sex with him. She has made some other comments about him being agressive and even hurting her in bed.

I would imagine that this is common to most couples as they age. It's just such an uncomfortable subject.

Tigg.....I do not believe that this is common with most couples under "normal"situations as they age ....but is common when Alzheimer's is involved. I don't know the age of you parents, but with people in their 60's which many of us here are sex is most definitely still a part of their lives if Alzheimer's is not in the picture. Either the partner wouldn't know what they were doing , couldn't do it or might as you say be agressive. But that is the disease not the age.

Good for you , smart move.Many of us have done the same thing.

Right now with us since the hospital bed arrived I had them put it in the family room so if he has to be in in alot soon that he will still be in the center of activity.

I on the other hand just took up sleeping on the couch in the family room so I can be sure to hear him. We do what we have to do to survive. The ripples of this disease seem to hit every single part of our lives and change them more and more.

My parents are 79 and 80 and were always sexually active. About 5 years ago dad started having problems and was given Viagara. Now apparently even that isn't working. But he still wants to have sex.

Like you said I think it's partly an emotional thing. Mom doesn't see dad the same way anymore and he probably gets frustrated.
