OMG Deb, I am so sorry. Nice that they suddenly care enough about the elderly to make certain we aren't abusing them but when we ask for help it is Sorry, you aren't eligible for any. This system is really screwed up. If the gov't was paying for all of our loved ones that are now being cared for at home, they would be borrowing alot more from China just to take care of them.

Deb, what is happening with you could be happening to any of us.
Of course you are stressed out. Giving your all to Rollie and now this.
I can only hope the APS has someone there with the common sense to see the reality of caregiving to Alz. spouses. Sending you warm hugs and sympathy. Fight back if it is necessary. You did nothing wrong.

If APS needs anyone to vouch for how diligently and lovingly you care for this man send them here we will tell them a thing or two about your life!

How about them deciding maybe you could use a helping hand,,,,and reaching out theirs to help you in this most difficult of caregiving situations.

Wish we were there live andcould give them a reality check into what this 24/7 365 caregiving thing is like!!!

So sorry you are bein dealt this blow unfairly. Never should have happened , but thats why they are called accidents. Could have happened to any of us.

Boy I'll bet that Vegas trip reprive is a distant memory. So unfair. You have all of our prayers coming your way..we know how much you love him. We all love our goys , we hate what Alzheimers is doing to them and us. Love you

I've been thinking Deb that the same thing could have happen to me when Tom fell out of bed. I guess if I would have taken him to the hospital or doctors to be checked out they would have APS check me out as well. Now that is an additional thing that we can all worry about. Gosh, this journey just gets more difficult as we go along adding one worry or another to the thankless, painful path we are taking with someone we love enough to give up our lives for. I do believe our good Lord appreciates what we do but on some days that doesn't seem to be enough.

Rollie is resting comfortably, lots of morphine. He doesn't appear to have 3rd degree burns so no skin grafting will be necessary. We went over the degree to which his care should be at this point, no heroics but simple common sense quality of life stuff. I am feeling better.

HUGS to you and Rollie, so sorry you are going through this. I have no wonderful words of wisdom. But know that I will be praying for you both.

How horrible. Accidents can and do happen but it is so much harder when they are in your direct care.

I'm sure the hospital and APS will not blame you. Just be prepared for them to possibly do a home inspection. Sometimes the rules that are in place to protect those who truly need protection can trip up the caring givers.

maybe we can have a club...when I had my emergency hospitalization last Oct. I left Ron in the care of the then live-in care giver, our 22 y/o son, my MIL (only cause she knows his meds ) and a professional caregiver from an Agency...not all at the same time, but at least 2 at once. The SW at the hosp sent APS out because for 1/2 hour my MIL would have been alone w/my husband.... so, first of all they are what is called "mandated reporters" so there are certain protocols they must file but, you know what......they are not always astute discerners of what is going on and what is actually needed, I think....

In addition, it is practically impossible to totally safety proof any place...just tonite, I had forgotten to "hit the switch"(I can shut off both the burners and the oven on our stove) and I looked over and Ron was dismantalling a burner...

In addition, I think I have written here the sad story of how my Dad died of his third fall in one month on NH, and when I asked for that to be checked I was told they were fine.....

Ron had a few accidents.. several hurts.. none requiring hospitalization, though.

I hope he is comfortable and you get a good night's sleep.

I just woke up from sleeping 13 hours, can you believe it? Wow! I feel great. I am at my mom's because she lives around the corner from the hospital and it is so quiet here. Do you think my body needed some rest? LOL Off to the hospital to see my honey.

Yes, you definitely needed 13 hours of good sleep. Away from the
stress of everyday care you were able to get it.
