Alzheimer's disease (AD) is the most common cause of dementia and characterized by progressive cognitive deterioration with declining activities of daily living and neuropsychiatric symptoms or behavioral changes. An early symptom is memory loss (amnesia), usually manifesting as minor forgetfulness that becomes pronounced with illness progression, with relative...
The first time I was really upset. Now that I am prepared with the right tools for clean up - it is becoming just another thing.
Still - hard to deal with and another big decline.
So, all of you (smile) at this story. :)
For some reason I cannot wake myself up when he has to go to the bathroom at night, I'm aware he's going but it's almost like I'm paralyzed and I can't get up. If I got up with him then I could prevent some of these accidents.
Enjoyed the funny grandpa story. I guess sometimes we just have to laugh to get through things.
This site and you gals keep me sane and laughing
I do not want to go into depends with him just yet so I"m going to give panty liners a try, get some of those light flow days things and see if they will keep him dry. I don't want to hurt his feelings by checking his pants ever time he goes potty, he was so horrified the two times he lost control and had b.m.s all over the house, he is still aware enough that this isn't right...It would be easier in some ways if he didn't know what was going on, then I could just diaper him and do regular checks like I did when caring for patients...
I am becoming a bathroom cleaning/sanitizing pro ! Plus the outing he makes to the kitchen sink in the middle of the night.. Grrr !
But - one day that will stop... just as quick as it started. For years when he finished his meal he would take his tray to the sink, put the glass and dishes in the sink and the tray behind the faucets.
Suddenly a couple weeks ago... he just stopped. Now he leaves the tray on the table or carries it to the counter. Something changed... just like that !
Talk about a mess.
I call this whole process adjust and adapt you never know what your going to wake up to but you just adjust and adapt to what ever it is today.
I am not in a good mood, not even close...my youngest daughter has been so sick and last night she actualy thought maybe she was dying so she went to the ER and got the stupidest bitch ever to get an MD...after several hours she was sent home with no meds (in this case this is probably a good idea) and no diagnosis...
So today she had another "episode" and her boyfriend took her to the ER and told her they would stay there all winter if that is what it took to get her to go inside...she finaly gave in and my doctor was on duty...he still isnt' sure what is wrong, besides a honkin huge infection in her throat, tonsils, adnoids that whole area is just a total mess but he thinks the real problem is she may be having seizures that are stress related...my number two daughter is epileptic and I had seizures as a kid so this is possible...at least he is doing something...did a CAT scan and said that looked good, gave her some meds to reduce stress and wants to see her friday..if she has any more of these things he'll order a MRI...in the mean time I'm going freakin nuts.
It is raining so hard right now I feel like I should be building an ark, at least I have plenty of water for those surprise clean ups...trying to find that damn silver lining...
I have to make a "pee search" at least twice a day. Don't know how much longer I can do this without help.
Also, he still resists taking a shower; went a month or longer without one, but finally got him in the shower a few days ago.
Depends and booster pads, but still pees out.. but it's the pooping thing that is getting to me.
I ask myself that question every day.. "How much longer... How much
more can I take...
I can get my husband in the shower every day.. he balks, but goes.
It is comforting to know we are not alone on this long, hard, sad
difficult journey.
