My husband was on Aricept first and then they added Namenda, it seemed to help right away for about 6 months and now he is off both because they weren't making a difference. I would call his doctor about the confusion.

My husband was on Reminyl (like Aricept) and Namenda for 6 years.
I stopped the Reminyl a year ago.. and the Namenda a few months ago. They just reach a point where they provide no further benefit.

If your husband is still in the moderate stage I would keep him on
them.. until the end stage.

I'm with Deb on this one, we started with aricept and didn't notice any improvement at all then the Namenda was added and it was very noticeable improvement right away.
Neal said he felt like his thinking was clearer then he could ever remember it in his whole life and for awhile he did seem to really rememmeber so much that he hadn't even before the alzhiemers.
The continued confusion would make me wonder if something else is going on and/or he needs to try one of th othr medications.

My mom was on Aricept for years when doctor started her on Namenda. She immediately became more confused and constant sleeping. I called the doctor who told me to give it time. As she got worse, I gave it three weeks and stopped it. She immediately returned to her "normal" state of issues.

As an aside, both drugs are very expensive. She would not have been able to continued both without very quickly spending her life savings on them. I would have had to have found some other way to deal whether the medication worked or not.

Namenda, Aricept and Exelon......I don't think any of them are worth a hoot. My girlfriend (with Alzheimers) has had nothing but decline. We have tried all three of these meds (at the Doctors insistance). We now have an appointment with a "specialist" in Alzheimers as our Doctor won't prescribe anything to help her sleep. He wants her on Anti-psychotics. (they have horrible side effects)
These meds are so expensive and if you've given it a few months and notice nothing but decline, I would say to save your money!

My MIL was on Aricept for 6 months but it didnt seem to do any anything but make her confusion worse and halucinations as well. We just took her off and might be starting her on something different to help but havent heard anything yet.

I guess they are going to start my mother in law on namenda soon. Im wondering how it will go, will post back when we get it started. I guess she has to be off the aricpet for a month, thats what her daughter said anyway.

My dad is on aricept and namenda, I I c no change at all... Y wood something supposed to help him confuse even more.. I took dad into the doc.s office yesterday and he wanted me to up him on namenda, to give him one at night as well as the morning... Havent tried it yet but now IDK if I should.... I think with all med.s that they'll work for an amount of time then the body gets used to it and it no longer works the way it should... My dad still sits and rathr talk to himself then to talk to me or anyone else in the house. He feels most comfee with my 9 yr old son and my yr in a half daughter, and i think thats normal... but whos to say wut normal is?
