I visited my children a few months ago (all out of state) and was somewhat traumatized by an event that haunts me when I remember it - like after reading your post.
I was looking at photos with my 29 yr old daughter - my first born and the love of my life. She showed me a photo of a woman standing with my 5yr old grandson. I commented on his cuteness and asked her who the lady was.
It was her.
I realized it as soon as she said it - it looked like no one but her. I tried to blow it off so as not to upset her but I cried later.
I guess even though I recognize HER, the abstract and disconnect of a flat photo just didn't trigger anything in my head.
Ugh!
I just hate this dementia. Stuff like this happens often but I am okay with it for the most part, when it happens in private, or with my husband present (he really understands). I just stay home now to keep opportunities for confusion and non-recognitition fewer.
I think I am still aware most of the time although I don't remember many of my days - just points of interest, if any, IF any happen. I live like today is the last day I will be aware.
Thanks for posting this.
Hugs for you and hubby.
Replaceco - you handled that difficult event very well. I'm happy that your have an understanding and supportive family. And you - my prayers and blessings are flowing your way.
