Deb I am so sorry. This damn disease is enough to send the caregiver to the funny farm and it would seem like a vacation! Do you use the depends that look like underwear with the grey & white stripes and other prints? I use them for Tom because he says they just look more like underwear than a diaper.

I just can't laugh at any of it anymore. I wish I had an answer for you. I think the only reason my husband doesn't take them off is he can't! He can't get them on or off.

When he tries to get them on he is standing on the back of them and can't figure out how to pull them up and to take them off is just as bizarre.

He really has lost all reason. I really don't know how far they can go with this damn disease. On a scale of 1-10 of brain power I think my poor guy is down to 2! ..and thats on a good day. All signals are shutting down.

He does still walk (although very slow and shakey) and he does still eat (with assistance) ......but thats about it.

I'd say mine was about a 2 alos, and mine still walks , or should I say shuffles, VERY slowly, eating? well, that's hardly at all, he can still get it in his mouth if it is finger food. Rollie doesn't know what they and the VA sends us the simple, generic ones with tabs at the side.

has anyone called the ALZ assoc to see if they have any suggestions about the wrecking and peeing behaviors?

I have taking apart dismantaling things beh. and putting everything where it doesn't go...not awful but just more chaos....

Deborah, I just couldn't get the diapers with the tabs to work with Ron. I could never get them tight enough so he wouldn't pee out.

It took him about 2 minutes to figure out how to pull the tabs so they were always unhooked. Drove me nuts.

I called the VA and they changed to the pull up kind.

Oh, they have the pull up kind? Great, well I am definitely going to get those instead?

Yes, and they were DEPENDS.. the good ones !

Deb, did you get the pull up one's. Sadie wears them but, even got into them. She got her hand in there and rubbed it on the wall and her face and hair. She only did that one time so far. I was told to put that silver tape on them so that they can't get in. That will be my next antidote if it happens again. I'm keeping my fingers crossed though.

I did try the pull ups and I can actually see an advantage of both kinds, with the wrap around kind I can get them off easier if there is a BIG mess.

Deb, I didn't know this until the Hospice aide told me...
The pull-up depends tear right off. You don't have to pull them down.
Just grab the side before the front pad and they tear.

I had been cutting them off when we had a big nasty :-(

My SIL works taking care of men who have to wear the depends and they have to have him wear the jumpsuits and turn them backwards so he can not get out of them or he will and make a mess with the poop.

I am not sure how comfortable that would be for him but it might be something to look into if just at night.

Whoa!!! I can't get Mother to use a pad, let alone Depends. So much to look forward to.

Back a few months ago there is a post about this. Several people said they wrap duct tape around the waist to keep the depends on. I have no idea if that works but it might be worth a try.
