As I have told before I have trouble with my in laws so I won't bother with all the drama about that, any way a very wonderful woman at the Alzheimer's Association hot line (did you you all know that they have volunteers 24/7, I didn't) gave me some really good advice this week. Our lawyer had advised us to get a restraining order but I felt a lot of guilt about preventing him from completely being with his family so I didn't pursue it. The counselor told me that a restraining does not have to be all or nothing. You can request a modified order, so I did. The order states that they cannot drink around my husband, they cannot take my husband anywhere with out me, they must visit with him in my presence. So I feel like that is a good compromise, I feel like I am not saying they can't be with him, just asking that they not drink and be drunk. I think it is reasonable and don't feel guilty. I'm sure they will still be angry but at least I feel like I am making an effort at safe visits for my husband.
I think that is a more then reasonable solution. We've had that kind of thing for decades when it comes to parentel visitiation of children where on parent may be dangerous or give cause for concern seems more then reasonable to do the same with elderly or those who are impared and could be harmed by relatives who are less then steller. This must be such a relief for you and takes the burden of keeping them in line off your shoulder.
