Rob has started the same thing! he is up then down , I ask where he is going he says I have to move, I need somewhere to go, something to do. the problem is he can't really do anything!

Mom was doing the same thing and she is still is in the nursing home. The medication she is taking is helping her not 100% but she is more calm now. See if you can change is med to find one that works better. Mom is on Respiradol and Trazodone for sleep and depression. I hate meds because I Know her life is being cut down shorter but I figured. What kind of life is that? So if she can be comfortable and more calm people are more likely to want to be around her instead of trying to get away from her.

Isn't that true? You can tell some people just don't want to be around ALZ people at all.

Not only do they not want to be around it, they don't want to hear about it either. It's like they think it is contagious.

Right after mother went into the nursing home, I got a new job working with Alzheimer's patients. (Have been an accountant for 32 years.) But I learned some redirecting tricks.

Give them a job. I would always give mama towels and washclothes to fold. Over and over again. Or ask her to babysit the dog.

One lady liked to work in the kitchen. She could grate cheese for hours. Boy, we had a lot of cheese. But then she was tired and could settle down for awhile. This lady would also fold tissues, and clean out drawers for long periods.

Another lady was tough. She had magazines and newspapers all over the house. I would give her a stack a mile high, and ask her to sort them for me. What to throw away and what to keep. She could do it for awhile, then I would remind her what she was doing.

More suggestions: sort buttons, sort coins, dig through junk drawers, look at pictures. Does your husband like tools, Let him clean out the toolbox. Put a quilt on the table, and let him have at it. Then when he gets tired, he will rest and so can you.

And, I agree, sometimes a mild sedative is necesarry.

I have heard of all of those ideas before but he will not do them. If I give him ANY task he will start it and tire of it quickly and say something like "I'll do that later." I'm sure it is because he needs to do something more physical but I can't get him to do it. I don't think I will ask about an meds for it, yet. I'll just try to work around it.

My hubby wen t through a fidgety period as well. It was a real problem since it is important for him to get out of his wheelchair a few times a day to protect his skin. Normally he would get into bed after lunch and spend time lying on his side instead of being on his butt all the time. Since we have had a problem in the past , I am super careful looking after his skin. All of a sudden, he would get into bed and five minutes later come out into the kitchen. He had no concept of time and this went on for about two or three months. It stopped as quickly as it started. Now he is back to his normal routine. Hopefully, that will happen for you as well. Hugs

Ron picks at things and takes things apart...thank goodness he is not an engineer sort, the house would be dismantled!

He pulls and picks at his clothing, puts things from one place to another, turns things over and over, examining them.

Sometimes I just have to leave the room it makes me as anxious as a long tailed cat in a room full of rocking chairs....

This all brings back memories . Mom did this too .
I keep telling myself ( this too will pass ) and it does .
But it so hard when it is happening.
I would take deep breaths and repeat the words " the grass is green and the sun is warm"
I called this whole process adjust and adapt . I never know what I'm going to wake up to, So I just plan to adjust and adapt.
If this was a toddler I would laugh and think this stuff they do is cute . Its not a toddler these are our parents, husbands, wifes, the ones that we are suspose to lean on and take care of us.
