Today is one of those days when I feel like a prisoner, I feel like I would like to go somewhere or do something by myself, alone (hardly remember what alone feels like anymore). Nothing urgent but I just want to be alone for a bit.

I know what you mean, I'm thrilled if I even get to go to the groc. store by myself. How about an hour to just sit and read a book ? Good luck I hope you get some time.

Spouses of retired people (men) and those who care for hubbies with AD all get that feeling, that's why having good support is so vital to our mental health. HOpe you get some time alone. For me it's mornings because he sleeps in several hours after I'm up thats when I get my read a book or play on the computer time wiht out interference.

Wow, I know that feeling. My mother has AD and was recently admitted to the nursing home dementia unit. I have cared for my 92 year old father for close to three months. My healthy husband follows me around when he is not working. I would just love to take a walk around the block. Good idea, think I will do that right now.

I"m so excited, barring unforseen disasters I will be able to go to my AD support group meeting this coming thursday for the first time since before last Christmas.
Our car broke down right around Christmas and didn't get fixed until a few weeks ago so I've missed all the meetings (and just getting out of the house) and it will be so great to sit back with a gourp of friends who all know exactly what is happening in my life.

My support group is fairly small and I have become close to them all.
It is so good to be with people who 'get it'.

Georgia, did you get to your support group? It has been awhile since your post. Just catching up with you. Hope you did get out and had a good chat while there. My church has a AD caregiver support group for the county. I am thinking of attending. Good to get out and good to hear how others have handled certain problems and emotions. Marcia

Deborah, How are you doing these days? Have you had the chance to get out a bit by yourself? I know it has been awhile since your posted about feeling like a prisioner but the care that goes on and on does not seem to end. Wondering if you have found some ways to get some time to your self? If you have maybe you would share how you have done this. Hope you are feeling better. Marcia

Yes, I am able to get out once in awhile, my woman's group has started up again after our summer vacation. And my kids are good about being helpful, too.
