How did you go about setting up a meeting? I think that is probably something I could use.

Good luck, anxious to hear what they say. Is it a Doctor ow what? I really haven't heard of an Alzheimer counselor, although it sounds like a great idea. I have lists for my lists!!! I always take one to the doctor , even we all forget things. Hope it goes well for you.

I'm back!!!

The meeting went well. I called the 800 number for the ALZ Assoc in our local phone book and got put through to the Sacramento branch. I said I needed someone to talk to , that I was having a hard time so they said I could talk to a counselor on their 24/7 line of volunteers or I could come in. I did both and I posted about the phone part in my other post. The walk in face to face is with a counselor, not doctor, who is someone who has a had a loved one with ALZ.

I just told her about all the stress with his family, about his intense shadowing, about the reccomendation for day care, everything. She ABSOLUTELY agreed with my decision to pursue the modified restraining order. She said, "They are toxic people and NOT good for someone with ALZ at all." She said that she would bet that there was a lot in the past regarding his family dynamics and that they had nothing to do with me and probably go way, way back. It was best for me and him that we minimize their contact. That helped, getting affirmation for that from a professional was great.

The atavin came in the mail today, so we'll see how that goes.

She gave me some contact names in my local area.

Also, I asked her about stopping meds, when to do it, etc. My husband has an Advance Directive and I have Power of Attorney. In our case with these documents (it would be different for a couple who doesn't have these things in place) she said that he should stay on the blood pressure stuff pretty much until the end BECAUSE they help keep him more physically stable which keeps the other meds flowing in a more steady and consistent flow. So the kinds of meds that I should/can depending on my feelings are things that are life sustaining, for example it would be within the meaning of the Advanced Directive to not allow anti biotics because that would be stopping nature from taking it's course. If he develops pnem, for example, then it is within the parameters of the Directive that we not treat it. I thought that was a good way to explain it and I will use it as my guideline.

She said most patients enjoy some bit of the day care.

So now I am waiting for a call about the day care from the social worker.

She also gave me some papers and stuff that I haven't yet looked through.

I feel good and ready for the next go round.

Ok....... next week it's off to Day Care. I'm going to do this. Absolutely. I don't care how much of a tantrum we go through.

Good info. It's okay to talk with the doctord but, it is so much nicer to hearit from someone who has been there.
I have been struggeling getting any kind of straight answers of just what the vererans or med a care woould help pay with on daycare.

The difficulty with the VA is their rating system, service connected or not, % disabled etc...

I have found that emailing them is a good way to get info and they usually respond with in 2 days, better than staying on hold.
