Alzheimer's disease (AD) is the most common cause of dementia and characterized by progressive cognitive deterioration with declining activities of daily living and neuropsychiatric symptoms or behavioral changes. An early symptom is memory loss (amnesia), usually manifesting as minor forgetfulness that becomes pronounced with illness progression, with relative...
Sorry things aren't going so well but I'm glad you hired someone to give yourself a break. Sometimes we get so caught up taking care of someone else that we forget who we are as an individual. I'm sorry about your mom passing away and also wish you a very good Easter. Take time for yourself and reconnect with old friends. I been trying that myself and its been helping. I hope this helps.
I also failed to mention that I fell on my bad knee last week and am hobbling around using a cane. It's very frustrating.
I'm supposed to be taking a mini vacation in just 10 days and hope I will be able to go. I have someone going in every day to see my husband to make sure things are OK. This fall could not have come at a worse time!
I can so relate to not having mom here for this Easter. Another "first" without her. we would all gather at her house and hide eggs for the little ones.... This is devastating me as well and I so understand your lonliness. I will still be surrounded by family (If I can help it) but it just wont be the same.
Good luck with Easter, and know that Im sending a hug from daughter to daughter missing their moms.
Janel
I wish you strength at this time.
GLad to hear from you although your news is sad....yes, holiday without our lost loved ones is so hard.....
I do hope you are able to get away for a break, they are so necessary....
wishing you peace....
You are doing the right thing in trying to take care of yourself, we do seem to get lost somewhere in the shuffle.
Hoping you have a Blessed Easter.
Hugs.....
This is my first Easter without my dear Rob and it is also very hard. Every day is hard and every morning I wake up and realize he really is gone. I have decided to look at it as one day closer to when I will be with him again. Believe me I know how hard it s for all of you still caring for a loved one with Alzheimers but trust me the aftermath is hard to. So my advice ....do what ever you can to get through it and take a break when you can but cherish any good moments (few as they may be ) because when they are gone you will even miss the hard times. Getting used to their physical presence being gone (good or bad) is really tough and no one can relate except those living it. God bless all you caregivers you are angels ( I know I have been there) its a tough road to walk ....as is walking alone.
I can't believe I am saying it but I miss any days with him even the really bad ones .........and as a friend I wanted to tell you all this. Everyone is different and some feel relief and God bless them I am very glad for them but that is not always the case. I judge no one for anything I just wish someone had told me how very much I would miss his presence. (even though half the time he didn't know me) I could touch him and give him a kiss good night and feel good that I was taking care of the person I loved. Now nothing.........
I don't want to upset anyone as everyone reacts differently but as a friend I want to let you know this is one reaction and could be yours so at the end of the day ...ask God for strength to carry on (as you have such a difficult task) but also thank him for every moment you can touch and kiss your loved one.
I pray for all of you and for all of us who have lost ur loved one.
Your friend , sherbear2
I love you all and pray for your strength.......Love Sherri
I'm so sorry for your loss and I think I can understand to some degree what you are going through. A very good friend of mine lost her husband a few months ago, quite suddenly though he had suffered from Alzheimer's for many years. I have tried to support her as much as I can. Her words echo yours. It was very difficult caring for him at home but she also would give anything to have him back with her. She regrets losing her patience with him at times.
I am taking the weekend off from seeing my husband in the hope that my knee will heal. I only have 9 days now till I go to New York City with a girl-friend. The flight, hotel and opera tickets have been purchased, I have arranged for a private caregiver to go in once a day while I'm gone, now I just have to get better.
I hope you will soon find some peace.
