My son(23) seems a bit more relaxed too, seems to be maybe? doing a bit better in college....

He told me last Fri that he had had to hold himself together through all of this 10+ years and wasn't too sure who his self was...so we talked about grieving but also using this juncture in the road to reshape ourselves as I to was not the same as I might have been.....

I know what it is to watch one;s young-ish children suffer through this too, so I am very glad for your daughter, loving soul she is, to seem a bit more relaxed....

I am so happy to hear that about both your children. It certainly can't be easy for them either. I am proud of both of them for the way they helped out and was supportive of you guys all the while they were struggling themselves.

This disease is brutal, not only for the patient and the spouse but for all who lived through it.

What kind of spirit does a person have to have to totally ignore a brother, sister , son or daughter like those of us who had family that did so? I will never understand. I wonder if they have any conscience at all.

I am so very happy for her..what a sweet dear girl. Rollie had two very special ladies to care for him.

I definitely would be even worse than I am right now without my girls.

One of my daughters had Thanksgiving ...and it went well. Of course we had our moments but we got through it.

She did the smartest thing, she served buffet (we usually have a formal sit-down). By having buffet we didn't have "Rob's empty chair" at the head of the table which helped alot. We had no head of the table and sat wherever we wished at two Round tables. It really was brilliant. It of course was still very difficult but that helped alot!

My children seem to be at peace now as well. The last few weeks before Ken passed was very hard on them so I am happy to know they are all doing better than I am.

I think when our children are ok, it helps us feel a little more ok too. I know I do. My two were amazing over the loss of their father. At least my daughter was. Since her dad and I were divorced, it fell to her to make all the funeral arrangements etc. She did a fabulous job.... of course I was right there with her..... And in seeing the way things were set up, I knew Rich knew we'd be doing it together. Our son hated his dad which is a long story. I don't think he had any remorse at all over losing him but once his dad was gone, he too seemed to relax more. It was nice to see..... He was almost relieved he didn't have to be social with him anymore. My daughter was relieved her Dad since he had been so miserably unhappy and sick for so long. It was over and none of us had to worry anymore. It's quiet a burden for our children to watch a parent die, whether they like them or not.
