Alzheimer's Disease Support Group
Alzheimer's disease (AD) is the most common cause of dementia and characterized by progressive cognitive deterioration with declining activities of daily living and neuropsychiatric symptoms or behavioral changes. An early symptom is memory loss (amnesia), usually manifesting as minor forgetfulness that becomes pronounced with illness progression, with relative...
I have heard lots of things about this and they are supposed to be good for Alzheimers. However, I haven't heard of anyone using it. There are several articles out about it and you could probably google it and find something. I wish I had known this for my hubby who passed away 1 year ago today. He sure could have used the laxative effect of it since his pain meds constipated him and it was a major problem for him.
As for your Grandmother;s tantrums, maybe it is time for a med change. Can you talk to her Dr. about her personality changes? It may just mean she needs her meds tweaked as the disease progresses.

You may be giving too much and thats why the laxative effect. Warm it so it becomes liquid and add to anything ..a drink, in food, on cereal whatever yoy think. But only 2 Tablespoonsfull 1xD I don't know how much you are giving. There have been many writups on this being beneficial if started early enough on and consistent....Good luck!
I knew it didn't reverse what was already done, but I was hoping it would bring about a change though. Her tantrums have subsided, but now she is justy crass all the time. I told her we didn't need eggs, because we already had two dozen, and she proceded to tell me that I was a bitch, and to mind my own damn business. I then approached it a different way, and commented that she didn't have alot of money in her account. She screamed at me saying that I am not the boss of her. Furthermore she called me a failure for not being in school, and that I am a lazy ass (when in reality I dropped out of school due to financial issues, and because of her diagnosis, so I work 40 hours a week doing overnights, and I work 50 hours a week from home, so I cold help her out financially, and to keep an eye on her, although she diesn't realize that)
I am mentally and emotionally exhausted. I just want to give up some days. I never thought I could be challenged this much, and she hasn't even reached pivotol stages yet. I don't know what to do.
As time has progressed , and so has my Mom's dementia, she is now on Risperidol, it has helped a lot in controlling her out bursts of rage
People on another Alzheimer website said they noticed a difference in their spouse after taking it.
I seem to be forgetting a lot these days and will take anything that might help.
Only one of the dozen articles re: coconut oil.

I went to a support group where Dr. Mary Newport spoke. She's really into it. I tried it, but couldn't see much of a difference, besides Paul has vascular dementia not alz. The resperidone does wonders for agitation, etc. I love sleeping at night now! He sleeps like a baby.
Good luck,
Susan
