Lately my husband has been asking for beer. He used to be a drinker and had stopped drinking completely before he got sick. I do NOT want to be around my husband AT ALL if he has had something to drink- very mean. I tell him no, he can't because of his heart and blood pressure meds and so far he seems to accept that. Just weird though, that he is asking for it after all these years. This is one thing that I'm not going to say, oh sure what the heck go ahead.

IT DOES MAKE SENSE, AS THEY LOSE CURRENT MEMORIES THE OLDER ONES BECOME THE STRONGEST ONES AND IF HE WAS A BEER DRINKER THEN HE SHOULD BE THINKING MAYBE HE STILL IS A BEER DRINKER.

That is strange,Ken has never been a beer drinker until the last 6 months. Now he is always wanting a beer. We have never been beer drinkers. He gets happy when he drinks it but does make him pee a lot.
I think your right if he is accepting the reason he's not is because of his health. Hopefully it will just pass.

It might be the taste thing. Ron was a big beer drinker. Now,one of his meds says NO ALCOHOL so it has been a couple years since he has had any.

Beer for sure would increase the urine flow - and I agree, Deb,
that is one thing I would NIX in your husbands case.

Our Dr tested Ron for B vitamins a few years ago and he was extremely low. She felt it was due to the drinking. Alcohol depletes the body of B vitamins. He went on a high B vit therapy plus shots for a while.

I am an extremely light social drinker. I used to enjoy wine, but now it gives me an instant headache. So I stick to an occasional beer or bloody mary. If I have 10 in a year that is probably about it !

I REALLY ENJOY A DRINK NOW AND THEN, AND I'LL DRINK NEARLY ANYTHING BUT NOW THAT I'M DIABETIC IT'S NOT A GOOD IDEA TO BE DRINKING, WILL STILL HAVE ONE ONCE IN AWHILE...BUT DID NOT DRINK LAST NIGHT, THOUGHT ABOUT IT.

I know this sounds weird, but I have heard that Alzheimer's think about smoking and drinking again if they had done it in the past. My husband smoked for a very short period in his life and now he keep saying he wants a cigar. He asks everyone that comes into our house if they want a cigar, even the grandchildren. It is quite embarrassing.

My mother was a heavy drinker for over 40 years.I think this is why she has this everycan of beer destoryes a brain cell i heard.I think i heard thats the man cause of this?None of mom family has ever had this she is the only one and the only one that was a heavy drinker.

There is a dementia caused by alcohol but it is not ALZ. It is called Wykroff syndrome or something, some significantly differently symptoms but I suppose in the end it doesn't really matter. Alcohol is a bad idea and I wish people wouldn't drink.

My mum decided for herself that alcohol just made her even more disjointed feeling (this was well over a year ago) and switched to non-alcohol wine. I know for myself, I drink non-alcohol beer just because of the calories, but maybe if you search online you can find something your husband will like. Beck's and Warsteiner both make one and I think Stella Artois does, too.
