My mother in law got diagnosed about 5 years ago, she is only 70 years of age and already is in Diapers and unable to walk. Will she Keep getting worse this fast??? This is such a horrible disease!!

Unfortunately the progression is different for every person so knowing if it will continue so quickly is hard to determine.

I have heard through this board and in research that the younger the person is when diagnosed it tends to be totally different and quicker at times than those that get it later or after 70. That might be why some things are happening like they are, I dont know.

But wanted to tell you I totally AGREE I hate this disease, it is horrible for everyone it touches, not only the person it has taken over. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Keep your head up and do the best you can....live one hour and one day at a time.

My MIL also progressed through the stages very rapidly.She went from being independently ambulatory in the late spring,to being bedridden this winter.
She passed away several weeks ago.Her death came approximately a month after losing the ability to walk or stand.She gradually became much weaker,easily tired,stopped eating.
Hospice stated that her rapid decline was unusual,but not unheard of.

You can 'google' the Alz stages.....loosing the ability to walk is very very far along unless there is something else causing that.....

Pray that the decline IS rapid. The quality of life is no longer there, and this dreadful disease makes all concerned very unhappy and depressed. It is terminal, so let release be sooner than later. You lost your loved one in stages, and grieved accordingly. I am so, so sorry

Thank you for all of your reply's! She just passed away 1 week ago. It was so sad to see her not being able to eat or drink for the whole 5 days she took before she passed away.

I am very sorry for your loss. What a cruel illness it is. I notice you originally posted in 2012. All those years held in limbo watching someone you love slip away piece by piece.
Now you can at least start to grieve properly. In the way that you can’t whilst a person is still alive.

I am sorry to hear about your loss-they say atleast she isn't suffering anymore,but that doesn't help with feeling the loss
