Hi everyone. I haven't posted for a while. I am so immeshed in what goes on in the nursing home and have really been trying hard to change things for the better there. By going in three times a day I see so much that is distressing and the only way I can cope is by letting management know and expecting change.
The nursing home situation here in Ontario is in crisis. The homes are supposed to be inspected annually but there have been so many complaints that the government made the decision to give priority to those homes that have complaints which means others may have to wait several years to be inspected. I have written to the Minister and have voiced my concern but so far have not even had a reply.
One positive thing I can report is that I actually took a break for a few days in April and flew to New York with a friend. It was amazing. We saw an opera at the Met and did a lot of sight seeing, all that despite the fact that I had fallen 3 weeks earlier and had to walk with a cane. I may have to have knee surgery which worries me already. Who is going to look out for my husband and who will look after me? As I mentioned I have only one son and no other family. I see the surgeon on July 11th and will know better then what to expect. Thankfully I have good neighbours and wonderful friends.
I guess it could always be worse.

Isn't it just ...'something' that NH requires so much vigilance so that our family members get good care.....I admire your advocacy...
and so glad you had a good NYC trip...the opera at the Met sounds wonderful...and so does the break and trip with a friend.....
are you eligible for any home care following your surgery?
also, do you belong to a church? wither or both might be ways to get some additional help after the knee surgery...?

fairly short. I was driving within 10 days.. used a cane for
a couple weeks.
I hope your procedure goes well.. and you get relief.
People have much worse problems so I must stop feeling sorry for myself.
