I can understand your feelings...I feel that way with Ron in the hospital, but....when we are deciding things, we MUST consider both them and us, as we are trying to be a working unit. IF you are so depleted you stop functioning or can only function minimally, you CAN"T care for him.

Rollie may adjust to the respite stay...and anyway his short term memory is not going to hold onto it for long anyway.....


Please do something for yourself that in the end will be for you AND him....he would want that.....

DEb, I am so glad for you , this will be an opportunity for some R&R for you. Don't waste it , it is precious. Thank God for you VA benefits. I am quite sure he will be fine, who knows he may like it. ENJOY your mini vacation..Hugs Sherri

My hubby is doing well and I still feel like I could use a real respite.....not just 4 hours to run errands, go to dr, etc. I absolutely feel you really need this. You know it isn't going to get any easier for you or your hubby. That two weeks will bring you back renewed and better able to deal with his worsening condition. Your health both physical and emotional are in deep need of time to spend on you. Wish I could join you.......get a massage, have a drink or just spend quality time on you......enjoy.

Don't worry everything will be fine. Besides your doctor would not say something like this if he thought you did not need it. It's going to be OK. Enjoy the rest.

I know it feels like its going away from the grain of your existence by doing this, but you really need the time for you. Rollie would understand and want you to do it, if he understood what was truly happening to him and you both. I know telling you not to feel guilty wont help you any....we do that no matter what. But remember the lifesaving techniques they have on airplanes.

Place the oxygen on yourself first then your loved ones. Time for your Oxygen sweetie and try to do something that will refresh you. Even if it is to just stay in bed a whole day.

Deb, please, know that you are doing something that is for the good of both you and Ron. You need the respite. Ron will be well taken care of. You cannot go on without a break. Doctors know a lot about the importance of caregivers taking care of themselves. You are being so caring and attentive. Have not one bit of guilt. You are admirable and a great example to us.

I feel your pain Deborah...My mind knows I had to put him in a NH and at the same time I feel like I'm doing something wrong. You must do this and even if you don't go out and have fun....you WILL catch up on some badly needed rest.
Take some bubble baths, get a new hairdoo or a mani-pedi. anything that will make you feel more normal. Go shopping and buy something new. try not to worry (yeah, right!) when I figure out how to do it, I'll let you know. lol. He will be fine and so will you.

Deb you are an awesome woman 13 years of care WOW you very much need some time.....I understand the guilt and all those feelings i went thru it with mom it feels neverending...but it will end.....so for now take some time and go eat out with a friend or just anything you enjoy that you haven't been able to do.....

Meet Sharon in Vegas again if she can get away. Take time to enjoy yourself and know that VA doctors and nurses will give him the best of care. Do whatever strikes your fancy but do SOMETHING FOR YOU.

Feel all the guilt but then take advantage of this opportunity!.. It is so hard to put yourself first but you can do it. Share your time with us. Good on you!
