migraines are terrible...do you know the trigger not easy though I know as many things can be on list weather patterns..foods..the word I dont like stress....I know its very tough and very very painful and affects quality of life.. biggest hugs ever..

If you can't afford the meds, see if they can get you samples or if the pharmacutical company has a program that will help you pay for them. I am sure you have tried other meds??? I hope you start feeling better. You always have a friend here that knows pretty much exactly how you feel.

I have been waking up with a migraine nearly every morning for several weeks and haveing to give myself an imitrex injection before getting out of bed. What worked real good for me to prevent migraines was taking depakote. That was a miracle worker. But as usual, my body got adjusted to the med so it did not work as well. My neurologist gave me botox in my head in the pressure points. It hurt like the dickens, but it really, really helped. This cluster of migraines is the first I have had in a couple of years. They are real expensive and hard to get the insurance to pay. My office had trouble getting the insurance to pay more and my 2nd insurance is medicare and they wouldn't pay at all. My dr wrote off all that I owed after about 4 or 5 sets of shots. They really were a miracle for me! Good luck. I hope you can find some relief.

Go to the website for the maker of those meds and type in Patient assistance program. All companies have one. If you have no insurance or cannot afford, you will get them for free. It's as simple as filling out a two or 3 page form!

I get my Pristiq for free because I have no insurance!

(sigh) It often seems to me our Government tries to assist everyone except the sick and elderly, the very people that need help the most. I guess we are too small of a voting block for them to worry about. After all, when your buying votes its best to spend the money where you get the most..... Thankyou wag and I understand how you feel but there is help for people who need it, you just have to know where to go. I am unemployed but my wife works so I don't qualify for Maine Care, (which is the states medicaid program) because I have no kids but I qualify for food stamps and although it was only $16 per month, every little bit helps. When my wife lost her job it went up to $370 per month but now that she is working again, it will go back down.

I am also in a program called care partners which is Doctor donated services for the needy. Even though my wife works, we still qualified for this program so we get free doctor office visits plus free tests and free hospital as well.

They don't tell you about this stuff because they don't want you to use it, but I just can't keep a secret! :-)

My daughter gets awful migraines.. knocks her out for days. But, we put her on atenolol ? spl? It's a blood pressure med and I think on the $4 list at wal mart (but i dont' shop at wal mart, so not sure). She also goes to the chiropractor. It is has helped so much, and I wish I would have taken her sooner. She still will get a headache, but has not missed school for a migraine yet this year. 3 years ago she missed something like 19 days of school. I will also take her for an occasional massage. That helps, too.
