I wont name names obviously, but lately I've been pretty worried about a close friend of mine. I've actually never met him in person but we've known each other from a different site for a long time. Well lately (like within the past year or two) I've noticed he seems more and more depressed. I know he's bipolar but especially in the past 8 months or so he just seems to be getting more and more depressed... And yeah, lately he's been talking a lot about suicide and always talking negatively about himself. He's been really down on himself and hard on himself and I don't really know why. I got him once to tell me about some girl he knew a long time ago but he wouldn't tell me much. I don't know what to do... I mean, its not like I haven't had to talk people down from suicide (and as far as I know always succeeded or they changed their minds for other reasons). This just keeps getting worse.
He doesn't live near by so its not like I can just hop on a bus and go visit him...

check out that smoke ring. It tasted really good. I smothered it with Maulls BBQ sauce which is Local to St. Louis and one of the best I ever had.....

I was recently separated from my wife of 33 years and it's complicated. Anyway I rented a room about 15 minutes away and I see my kids about once a week. I see the people who own the house I live in once in a while but other than that I stay in my room where I do my cooking, wash dishes in the shower, read, color, and sleep. I get out at least once a day. I grocery shop and I attend 2 meetings...

It eventually got so bad that I contacted a relative of his through facebook (turned out to be his niece whom I HOPE doesn't go telling him I told on him). He's still alive and kicking and for some reason believes no one cares and everyone hates him..
Ask him if he would be willing to speak to God about his issues, it couldn't hurt. I'm not talking about prayer (he doesn't need to know any fancy prayers) just talking to God about his problems and see if that brings any light. In the end, bad it could not do.
Good luck to your friend and to you as well for being so empathetic.
DS tells us that if someone is suicidal to call the cops. I could never figure out what calling the cops about someone in, say, Australia, is going to do to help! So I just try to give that person as much support as I can and that usually helps.
I think just tell him that suicide is not an option, it's a long term solution to a temporary problem. That usually works for me.
Good Luck!
I don't know for sure that this has anything to do with his romantic life. His wife, whom he had been with for a VERY long time (they met when they were pretty young) died a few years before I met him and he's been more or less single since then. He's made strange vague references to some girl from his past that was friends with his wife and to some guy whom he never explained their relationship (As far as I know, he's straight) I don't remember the guys name, just the context in which he brought him up was just odd.
Please have him visit the following group. there are articles where to seek help and please have him join in.
