Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.
Your post is a good reminder to anyone who hasnt asked for help, to ask. ITS out there. And remember in AA in particular, those we will ask for help are honored and helped themselves, not burdened.
My grand p a, great guy, I miss him, only recenlty passed away. I spoke to him about AA late last year and he was so against it as his way is "you do it yourself and you do not lean on others". It didn't deter me going to AA but it just reflects my ingrained family attitude towards reaching out for help. As you can imagine my family is very dysfuctional and no one talks to anyone about anything... like a secret society........
However, in reaching out for help with my drinking (AA for me but any form would of been hard) I had to ask for help. At first I was so resistant to help and others in AA as I don't trust easily. Like sticky said that those we ask for help are honored, not burdened. I feel so lucky to have met some supportive people in AA, who have taken me under their wing. They could see I was having a tough time with accepting help but their help has never been pushed on me. If anything some of the ladies are teaching me about recognising and building better boundaries and guiding me through AA. My HP is guiding me towards the people I need to be around.
With accepting that I have a problem with alcohol and praying to my HP some really good people have come into my life and I feel less lonely and feel like I am getting back to "me".
Holding the hand of another (I really like that) does bring joy to your heart. I will share the below Lenuig poem as I love it and is about holding our own hand through tough times as well.
Sitting on the Fence - Leunig
Come sit down beside me
I said to myself
And although it doesn't make sense,
I held my own hand
As a small sign of trust
And together I sat on the fence.
