Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. This has been my word for meditation the last 3 days. What I have discovered about myself is....
Until now, I was "willing" in a defiant sort of way. I was willing if "they" could make me "get it". I was willing if they could trick me into it.
Being "willing" to clean your room does not get your room clean.
Being willing to do the work and wanting to do the work will not keep me sober.
Willingness is letting go of the defiance and allowing my program to work with an open mind and with humility. Willingness must be followed with action. It ain't magic after all. I hate learning the hard way.
I sure was proud of myself when everyone including my sponsor laughed at a mtg when I quoted "Let go or be dragged" and followed up with "I'll hand you the reigns if you drag really really hard please." What a bunch of bullshit. ...Months later, no one is laughing anymore at my arrogant humor.

What does willingness really mean to you?
I remember being new to recovery, and informing a group of women that I had no character defects! they thought it was the funniest thing ever. they informed me to keep coming, and guess what I am full of character defects, just not as many. Defiance keep me safe in drunken stupers, but willingness keeps me sober in times of trouble, happiness, and uncertainty.
