Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. So, cognitive therapy is good, but when your mania strikes I do not think your cognitive techniques will overcome it (I am hearing that you are aware of this).
Are you on meds? I really think most people are helped if the get the right one-and stay on it. The problem with that though, is that people do not want to stay on their meds-as the euphoria that can come with the mania is something they like. But what goes up must come down....
Out of all the mood disorders-bipolar, while very severe, often can be treated with medication.
