Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.
Its just like alcoholism its a disease that tells you ya don't have a disease and they go off their meds and their right back where they started hopeless.
Something seems really wrong in these numbers.
Like I said, my sister was diagnosed with it, but she is perfectly fine when she is not drugging and/or done with withdrawal.
She is a normal human being. Oh...she doesn't take her meds as recommended.
She SAVES them - I'm going to guess for when she is out of cocaine.
However, regardless of what diagnosis we may have, this does not prevent us from working through the steps and living a sober life. If when recovery has been achieved and the person has been sober for a while, they can always ask for a review of their medication.
It is vital that we in AA give no other advice than this. I know an AA member who was a psychologist who had been called in three times to identify AA members who had committed suicide because some idiot in AA told them they could not be sober if they didn't.
After 12 steps, and a year of clarity, just about all my symptoms have became manageable.
I am down to one med. that is way necessary.
Like my lawyer says; Well Bob, I think we are all bi-polar to some degree.
add to this that those who propose the conept of a bipolar spectrum also believe that one can shift throughout their life from one to another - not rapidly, mind you - but over one's lifetime it is now thought that a person's brain chemistry can change. as such, their dx may change as well. its not to say that previously they had been misdiagnosed - its just to say that they have changed.
I do not believe that sobriety,in and of itself,is not a cure-all in every situation. Some have a chemical imbalance in their brains that just not drinking does not fix.In my unprofessional opinion some people DO need medication to help them with themselves, and on the other hand, some people would highly benefit and "even out" with the sustained practice of spiritual practices, and learning new ways of thinking,as drinking is not the problem, the thinking is.
There are different types of bipolar; Having at least at least one of the symptoms can mean either Bipolar (1) or (2), (out of four different types)
--depressed mood most of the day, nearly every day, appears tearful.
---markedly diminished interest or pleasure in all, or almost all, activities most of the day, nearly every day
---significant weight loss when not dieting or weight gain or decrease or increase in appetite nearly every day.
--Insomnia or Hypersomnia nearly every day
---psychomotor agitation or retardation nearly every day
---fatigue or loss of energy nearly every day
---feelings of worthlessness or excessive or inappropriate guilt nearly every day
---diminished ability to think or concentrate, or indecisiveness
---recurrent thoughts of death (not just fear of dying),
---recurrent suicidal ideation without a specific plan, or a suicide attempt or a specific plan for committing suicide.
