Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.
Personally, I do get tired of all the "AA-speak" that permeates this board. I don't think many people realize how pervasive it is -- talk of HP, the steps, etc., but I've learned to decipher and sometimes read around these.
Nice post, Nicky and I do like the clarification.
Thanks for offering to be there for me, but like I was saying..... I do not like to be pressured by other people to go to AA. I am the only person who knows what works for me and what doesn't.
I don't mind the talk about sobriety and alcoholism. It is why I am here. But as a non-AAer it has been difficult to even understand what people are talking about sometimes. There are phrases, acronyms and sayings that seem to come straight from AA.
I certainly get a lot out of hearing about people's experiences no matter what program (or lack thereof) they have used.It is just that often posters who participate in AA assume that everyone knows what the AA phrases and terms mean.
Along with your simple explanation with which I agree the preamble of AA I also think keeps it simple and explains what AA is.
God Bless...

The AA Preamble
ALCOHOLICS ANONYMOUS is a fellowship of men and women who share their experience, strength and hope with each other that they may solve their common problem and help others to recover from alcoholism. The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop drinking. There are no dues or fees for A.A. membership; we are self-supporting through our own contributions. A.A. is not allied with any sect, denomination, politics, organization or institution; does not wish to engage in any controversy; neither endorses nor opposes any causes. Our primary purpose is to stay sober and help other alcoholics to achieve sobriety.
Your sobriety and how you accomplish that is up to you. If drinking causes you problems I do hope you find a way to stop.
ive been to two meetings - going to one tomorrow - it became quickly apparent attending a meeting is not a cure all - bummer lol - but i did like being around other people the same as me
and now i have a big book - OMG ive been converted - pee my pants funny
but on the other hand it is disheatening when you are told it is the only way, and without it you'll fail - thank goodness that's not all i heard here or i would been gone in a heart beat
Sincerely, I don't mean that at all to sound confrontational or smart ass, I'm genuinely curious where some folks are hearing this. I truly only hear non aa'ers say they are hearing from all aa's, but have never heard it first hand. (besides the very few exceptions on this forum).
