What is AA?

After reading a few posts about AA I felt I I wanted to post this.

AA was started by a group of drunks who had found a way that worked to stay sober and wanted and needed to share it with other drunks who needed a solution.

So they shared it with some drunks who shared it with some more drunks who shared it with some more drunks. etc etc

So here we are today - AA today is a group of drunks who have found a way that works to stay sober and want and need to share it with other drunks that need a solution.

We are not out to persuade people to come, or tell them it is the only way, or to promote AA in any way. Th basic message to people who are out there struggling is that if you have tried to stay sober and not been successful we might be able to help if that is what you want.

I always loved the phrase "AA is a program of attraction, not promotion." I liked what I saw and heart so stuck around.

Honestly sara my intention is not to open a can of worms, just say what I see about the simplicity of AA.

There are a lot of members on here posting about AA and I would imagine that to some new people it might look like some sort of recruitment drive.

I just wanted to say really that we are just a group of drunks who say this is what we have, if you think you might want it too, come and join us and give it a go. IMO.

Why can't everyone describe it that simply. Very nicely put. Not being AA, that is something that makes sense to me and wouldn't scare me away. Quite the contrary.

That's a very good explanation. Shock of all shocks, I've actually been reading the Big Book lately. I can't argue with it.....it makes a lot of sense. Some people just try to complicate things too much, but I think Nicky's explanation keeps it simple.

Need to clarify my last statement. What I meant by "main reason" is my previous experience with people pressuring me to go. The element of persuasion to work "the steps" was the main reason why it does not work for me.

agree with soberpreacher. you don't need aa? our literature tells us there are other ways. God bless you!. for me, though, i cannot imagine another human being who suffered so long with so many consequences (goodbye, my only child i lived and died for daily, lost at 3years of age. no other children, now 13 and not in need of this momma she resents and suspects). i tried so hard to die. i did. they always brought me back. but i failed through divine intervention. i am the face of aa and the heroes of the past are as blood to me as family.
