it's not about signing up Ash. It's about showing up. regular attendance offers people the opportunity to get to know you. You have the opportunity to become part of the family. Just remember it takes some time. Unfortunately people who have been around the rooms for a time remain distant at first. It hurts when one gets close then they disappear.

Thanks, Nod, I figures it was a big commitment...I understand what you are saying....I hope that I can find that group I would like to call my home group....or family...but when you attend regularly what is different than attending and it being your "home" group? I mean do people have more than one? Sorry I am asking dumb questions...

Your home group is typically your favorite meeting, it can turn into a lifesaver.
When you become regular at meeting your accountability will come into play. They can look at you and call you on your shit. If you miss a meeting they will call you, and get on your ass. If you are talking out your ass, they will call you on your shit. Get the drift Ashley.
My home group is frequented by my whole sponsorship family. I am tormented, at my cost.

The home group is the place you will give your attention too when it comes to giving back. Making coffee, cleaning up, taking meetings, sponsoring others, helping old timers, or new comers, get to meetings, sitting on committee and attending elections, group consciences, and group inventories to help the group stay active.

This is how the idea of a home group works for me. My home group is where I do my service commitments at a group level, it is where I attend every week without fail (barring emergency LOL) it is where people know me and I know them (and I mean KNOW), it is where I can exercise my right of participation in relation to voting at a group conscience, it is (to me ) the best meeting around!!

Having a home group means that I can't hide, even if I want to. There are people there who will support and encourage me when things are difficult in life. The people there are some of my sponsees and I get to watch 'em grow.

Does this mean I have made a lifer commitment?? Not at all, over the time I have been in AA I have had several home groups (not all at once) things change so fast in AA that we go first of all so we can get fellowship and find a sponsor, and hear about recovery to give us hope, then we go in order to carry the message, I go to the best place where I can do that.

The "home group" is when you walk in the door and say "I'm Home."

Yes, accountability at my home meetings too. A place where when I am headed in the wrong direction, others encourage me to go the right way. I gain strength from those members who reach out to me with love and respect, and it's a place where we share problems, and support each other on our journey.

Of course you can get this at most AA meetings, but you get to especially know those at a home group. Mine have changed over the years, but those in early sobriety remain close to my heart, and I often make the effort to return to them on their special occasions. CM xxx
