What are you thankful for that you can now do sober, that you couldn't do when drunk...or vise verse...what DON'T you do now that you used to do drunk?

For me, it was attending one of my best friends son's graduation party. I used to be TIGHT with that family...substitute soccer mom, taking the kids to the park...drop in visiting.

Then, I started drinking...and I stayed away from the family for years. They live in the same town, but I never saw them...I didn't want them to see me, because I would be either drunk or hungover.

So, Sat...I get to the party and the boy that I remembered, has become a young man. And he stopped opening presents and immediately got up from his group of friends and hugged me. That right there filled me with enough joy to last a while. In fact, remembering it just now pulled me out of a funk.

So, share more, with me and everyone...so we can see the joy of sobriety in action.

I'm grateful that I have the ability now to help another person and to also ask another person for help when I need it! I'm also grateful for knowing people who I can ask! The 12 steps of AA are truly amazing!

I am thankful that my family smiles now. There is no greater gift than to see my husband and kids smile everyday...........

I am thankful for my ability to be firm in knowing right from wrong. I use to be swayed so easily-now I know bs when I see it and you cannot convince me differently.

People can even dislike me and that is ok-I am actually not that bothered by it! I don't take it too personally-they don't really feel angry at ME anyway. It is there right-and it does not make me dislike them. How weird is that?

Ahhhh, nice to have my intuition back.

I am thankful I can get a really good night of sleep and wake up and be hopeful about the day. I am also grateful that my decision making ability is not impaired so I can generally make the best decision about taking care of myself. I am really thankful that I don't have that feeling of shame following me around. I am also thankful that look like myself again and don't look like something the cat dragged in nor do I feel like something the cat dragged in. I am happy to walk into work without trying to estimate how to get through the morning feeling hung over. I am thrilled right this second to be alive and be able to experience things without a self induced cloud over my head. I am also grateful to know that even when I sad, I know that it will pass and I won't have drunk myself into a sadder stupor. and I am grateful I get to read about what other people like about being sober.

I am thankful that I have the money AND the desire to take my step daddy to lunch on father's day and that he & my mother actually want to go with me.

I am thankful that I WANT to take them to lunch as opposed to spending Sunday drunk, alone, afraid, sick, ashamed & feeling guilty for not being with him on father's day...I wish I felt this way before my real father died..
