Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.
Details, us alcoholics love details ;)
I wasnt sure after my first one either, it was all very strange, but it got easier as I went more times.
Try a few different meetings as they all have their own "personalities" and you will find the ones that fit you best.
It takes a lot of courage to go to the first one so well done.
My first impressions werent that good. I disliked the formality, the reading of rules before and after.
I enjoyed the second share more than the first.
The reason I went was because when I go to work and have to travel a lot one of my plans is to know when and where the meetings are so i can use them if i need to.
Winged Wolf, I saw no difference between what they have and I have.
Im happy with what im currently doing to keep sober physically, and also the things I am doing to address the problems in my life that led me down this road.
Today at day hospital was good because I got to discuss it with the psych nurses. They explained its not something that recommend or condemn, they simply agree in different strokes for different folks.
I am going again in 2wks. I always believe in not making up my mind with 1 attempt at something.
for me it saved my life when i had no where else to turn my first few meetings i was always pissed at them but i then began to relate to alot of the shares i was told to put the cotton wool in my mouth and listen to them, now each and every time i go now i feel at home with the people that understand me good luck with whatever you choose dipso the main thing is your sober for today :0) xmarkyx
To get a real idea of what AA is all abou you must go dozens znd dozens of times. You need to go on a regular basis much more than every two weeks. Hear with your ears and listen with an open mind. I know that if you go long enough some one will tell your story and you will realize that probably for the first time in your life you fit in. That you are no better or worse than everyone else. Good Luck
Sometimes things are read out at the beginning of meetings to kind of 'set the scene' other times it's to explain something about how the meeting functions, which is always good to know.
Maybe you might try not leaving it so long before you go to your next meeting. Also, all AA meetings are different, so try different ones. They say there's a spanner to fit every nut that walks in the door and I guess it works that way with meetings too.
Maybe, if there's something specific you didn't like/understand you could pm me and I might be able to help.
Well done you!!
Lyn
Whatever it takes dipso.
Im sort of considering it, and need to know what they do there
